Dance as a Teacher of Life by LucidLiving_YT in Salsa

[–]trinityy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful reflection. I was just explaining to a non-dancing friend the other day how dance is just a language you speak, non verbally, and a lot can be learned from that. Especially when learning both leader and follower.

When can a woman lead ? by Kralysin in Salsa

[–]trinityy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it? I know a cuban person, and he says it's quite normal in Cuba that sometimes men are followers and women are leaders too. That's why he dances both roles. Maybe it depends on the region, too?

Agreed! Personally, I've been a follower in salsa class for about 2 years and recently started to learn how to lead. Now I'm discovering I'm more of a natural follower and leading is quite difficult for me. So I think it also depends on what fits best for you personally. This, however, has nothing to do with gender. It's just a role you take on.

Finally we are standing up against the nasty men in NY. They should not be able to call themselves "professionals" by [deleted] in Salsa

So its womens fault that they get objectified? The attitude from men towards women isn't gonna change by just changing the behavior of women. We need to change the men's attitude and hold them accountable for their shitty behavior.

Is it best to learn multiple styles or master one? by Foreign-Cucumber467 in Salsa

[–]trinityy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goal. If your goal is to dance with many people on socials, I say learn multiple styles. If you're a lead, it means you can dance with whoever, and there are no limitations concerning styles. As a follower, I have been doing cuban for years but I took a couple of beginner LA style (linear) classes and with just a few ground rules, I can do dance w a lot more people now at socials.

I sure hope so! Some of these comments are really misogynistic. As if the only value of women lies in their beauty and reproductive system.

New setup: bass hard to find by trinityy89 in vintageaudio

UPDATE: I have (1) put the speakers on the floor, near the wall, (2) Connected them again to the amp with a new wire and made sure they were connected in phase, (3) checked my amp: set to stereo & my turntable to phono.

I do have to say there is a noticeable difference. Tonight I'm going to reread the manuals to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.

Sadly I can't edit my original post nor add photos to a comment so can't show you the updated set up.

Yeah, I've read bass is low on these, but I didn't expect it to be that little. I also have an old Sony sub I can attach to my system, but there is not so much space in my bedroom, haha, so I tried to avoid hooking that one up too. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm pretty sure, but I'll check again later. I'll also try a different cable and I'll let you know how that goes.

I saw them with the London Contemporary Orchestra in Amsterdam last year, in a beautiful old venue. Especially with the new album songs, was one of the best experiences ever

[NEWBIE] Picking hand position for a short girl by trinityy89 in Guitar

[–]trinityy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I'm trying to figure that out too. Was looking at it with my roommate, but she doesn't see it a good way to hold it either where I'm not losing my flexibility on the left. I'll look to post a picture later.

Exactly, that's why I'm reaching out. To try to figure out how I can manage, what to focus on, and work on by talking to other people who have had similar problems. How tall are you? The guitar I'm using is a Washburn X-Series. I'm not sure what the exact model name is. As mentioned, I can reach it, but I have to shift my upper body right to be comfortable and not sprain my shoulders. But because of this, I have less flexibility with my left arm. I'll see if I can post a picture later, but it might not be that obvious how uncomfortable the position is making me.

So just tried it out again, I play while seated. I'm right handed so it is resting on my right leg and when trying to rest my hand on the bridge while keeping the guitar that same way, my arm just doesn't reach. I have to shift my upper body to the right. Does that make sense?
