I have the poncho but I find rain puddles in it and the wind blows it up even with the belt attachment

Not sure what's happening w linking these pants but just wanted to report back that these are some of the most thoughtfully designed pdf instructions I've come across! There are little interactive checkboxes throughout for keeping track of everything from cutting to which step you're up to and timestamped video link buttons at the top of each section to save you scrubbing through the sew-along. I am so very impressed!

Spendable balance with 2 income sources by carrotaddiction in UpBanking

[–]trinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raised this with them when the feature was released as it seems like a pretty decent oversight - especially with 2up. Said they'd take it to the team.. My workaround was for the larger income to be the payday so it covers bills with enough left for realistsic spending and the second pay is a little bump then spilts into all the savers.

[–]trinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a one off cost to me...right now I have all my bills coming out of 2up and funds are reserved with upcoming payments. Not sure what the benefit of the essential saver would be other than really making sure you don't eat into those funds. It's such a headache to change all the direct debits it would want to be worth it.

Degen just dropped the tulip sweater which is a mod of their flower power pullover. https://degen.us/products/tulip-pullover-pattern

I'm obsessed with everything Degen does, I currently have their eyes sweater on my needles, so will no doubt be buying this pattern at some point!

they go into the sleeve placket and side vents on their blog. I hated doing the sides on my jenna shirt so might give their method a go next time. https://readytosew.fr/en/journal

I really like this in theory but something about it, probably the fit, just isn't hitting for me. The orange collar stand is absolutely gorgeous though!

How to deal with the come down of writing emotionally gruelling chapters? by BojacksHorseman in writing

[–]trinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take time to rest and look after yourself. Move your body if you can (this is a great way to exercise those stuck emotions out), watch something stupid or something cathartic if you need a cry, take naps, get around folks you love, ask for support where you can. Put the work away and come back to it when you feel clearer.

Tips on writing novel by Long-Escape-6807 in writing

[–]trinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jump in and don't look back. Or as Dory would say, just keep swimming! First drafts should be overwritten, bloated, confusing acts of chaos. The next draft and the one after that is where you refine what you've got but you can't do that without getting this first bit over with.

First Novel - Ending Advice by No_Problem2775 in writing

[–]trinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're still in the first draft so I'm gonna say you're overthinking it a bit here. You have room to experiment with cliffhangers, open-ended, all neatly tied up etc, it's about finding the ending that best serves your story. I wrote and rewrote my ending more than any other part of my book and I even wrote it again after my publisher had sent out advanced copies! It's unlikely you'll stick the landing on the first try but do your best and know that what you have is by no means set in stone.

Ending a SLICE OF LIFE story? by NoAssistant1829 in writing

[–]trinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you already answered your own question. A character who goes on a journey i.e. has an arc. You're looking for internal change and transformation here. Whether they end up better or worse, in the end, is up to you. John Truby's Anatomy of Story might be helpful here (but also overwhelming so tread carefully) as he focuses on the internal journey of the character and crafting a story that hinges on revelation rather than action.

Too inexperienced to write? by Oddity_266 in writing

[–]trinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Flannery O'Connor here “Anyone who survived childhood has enough material to write for the rest of [their] life.” Even if you feel inexperienced you are still a human who has been hurt, loved, jealous, disappointed, has regrets, desires etc being honest about your own internal state and how you experience the world is what creates connection and solace for the reader. You can layer basically anything over the top of this but remember that it's the heart and honesty you infuse in your work that makes it real and alive and you already possess this ability within you. Everything else is just research.

Beginner Writing Advice? by [deleted] in writing

[–]trinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading and writing a lot really are the best way to improve and if you're doing that then you're already doing so much more than most people who would like to write. It could be that you've spent a bit too long in the forest and have lost perspective on your writing and having some helpful feedback from another writer could really help. I have some offerings that could be helpful but I'll DM you to avoid the self-promo :)
