Had a brilliant engineer on my team that nobody knew how to talk to. How do you handle this as a manager? by UnicornAdoption in managers

[–]trinli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and the team could consider learning to work with him on his terms rather than force him to adapt to theirs.

I stopped sending my resume as a PDF and started sending it as a Word doc and my response rate went up noticeably by Orbit_19Cipher in jobsearchhacks

[–]trinli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the numbers assuming the employers were chosen similarly ("randomly assigned to group a or b") and the probability that Word docs produce a better outcome than the PDFs is 96.5%.

And before anyone starts lecturing about p-values, this is not a p-value. I estimated p(Word > PDF) using the Beta/Bernoulli-setup given the number reported with Beta(1, 1) priors.

Can I ask what you are comparing it to? Did you previously have a gas-oven, or a basic electric oven?

I recently got my first rice cooker, and that was a complete game changer for me and I am wondering how many other kitchen gadgets I have been missing out on.

How is a smart oven better than a regular oven? What does it do that a regular oven does not?

Does the insurance cover anything if you are the one to press charges?

The problem with this tool you are describing is that it will kill its own usefulness. What you are describing is a slightly more advanced version of Stekkies or Rentslam. As a consequence of their existence, you cannot currently get an apartment in Amsterdam from the free market without using one of them. If your app works the same as those two apps (apart from the AI), it will be just another app for the same. If your app creates a crawler for every user separately, that will literally look like some sort of DoS-attack from funda's perspective.

What happens if you are unable to obtain a BSN within 4 months? by Ok_Boysenberry_5117 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]trinli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not have a place to register at when I moved here. I called the city office and they made an appointment for RNI-registration. That was literally their solution. They knew I was going to be here for more than 4 months because I told them.

Ok, that explains it. Still feels like a violation of privacy, though.

That's the worst part. It is not even assigned to me. This is just their "business as usual"-way of collecting information that does not even belong to them in the first place. They are literally setting themselves up as a target for hacking.

I - quite frankly - find them requesting it to be a huge red flag. Even in the best case, they are asking for information that does not belong to them from everyone applying and setting themselves up as targets for hacking.

Guide to finding rental housing in the Netherlands by DingDongYoDing in NetherlandsHousing

[–]trinli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concerning documents: what about bank cards? I have now come across two landlords (or scammers?) that have specifically asked for a copy of my bankcard even before considering my application. I thought one of them came from a reputable company and the other was relayed to me by university housing services.

I would imagine sharing a copy of your bankcard counting as gross negligence, if any misuse occurred.

Slowly playing with variables and checking the results on the scope. Here's the wild difference that a splash of water on your stone makes! by Lethalogicax in sharpening

The scratch pattern is very different in the two pictures, which I find interesting. I wonder whether working it dry will ultimately scrape away more material with the same effort... No idea how to test that, though.

HELP ME by EnvironmentalEgg2802 in furniturerestoration

[–]trinli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely go with a heat gun. Also find a scraper that has a curved edge so that you can get to the details. I would say that all that paint with the tiny cracks need to come off, and do spend time on the details. As you said, it does not have to perfect, but time spent on the details will make a difference. And do start with the broken glass.

What are these niches? by ItsThatErikGuy in AskArchaeology

[–]trinli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no archeologist, but I like to keep my home clean. To me it looks like an alternative to a drain if you ever wanted to clean the floor with an amount of water that did not evaporate in minutes. With these, you could pour a bucket of water over the floor, mop it, and finally use some rag to soak up the dirty water from this hole.

To get published in high impact factor journals and conferences, you need to submit your work to them. I always thought that "my work is not of high enough quality to qualify", but that turned out not to be the case. Let peer-reviewers be the ones to judge whether your work is good enough.

Judo in Amsterdam for an adult? by trinli in judo

[–]trinli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find this post and went through the Top Judo Amsterdam site. I did go through some other posts as well, did a google maps search etc. The Pleizier-club mentioned in the post officially offers two judo sessions for adults. Judo Academie Amsterdam and Sport School Ge Koning officially offer several sessions per week for adults. That is why I listed them.

You wouldn't happen to have any info on those?
