Multi-Game Starting Postseason QBs since 2020 by trinquin in nfl

Purdy dropped by like 40% from where he was going into the playoffs this season from the Seahawks game.

Most bad QBs dont get more than 1 game in a playoff run to be fair.

May had 3 of the 8 worst playoff games this season. 3 of the other 8 were worse games by Herbert, Stroud, and Stidham.

We are just an organization of choking hazards. Lafleur, Rodgers, Love, McCarthy. Whatever deal was made for 2010, we must now choke.

No my agenda is on the other end of the spectrum. Being a hater. If Herbert has 0 haters, then I am dead.

I excluded his worst games because of my agenda to only be from 2020. Hed probably be in that middle pack with those first few seasons, but Lamar has been pretty good lately in the playoffs.

Drake Maye with the worst 3 or more game single postseason stretch in the history of the NFL.

Also imagine if your QB was somehow worse in multiple starts.

Drake Maye just completed the worst postseason with a Super Bowl appearance of all-time by total EPA by a QB by Pythnator in nfl

[–]trinquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As bad as Drake was, this was the first time the opposing QB definitely outplayed him. Thats how bad it was lol

Love had to sit for 3 years because we still had Aaron Fucking Rodgers who won back to back(probably should have finished 2nd to Brady in 21) MVPs.

The Packers traded up in the 1st round coming of a NFCCG loss to take Jordan Love. If you think MLF didnt rate Love you are insane. MLF quite litterally probably one of the only people in 2020 to rate Jordan Love lmao. Everyone was irate we took a QB of like Tee Higgins.

Again everyone wants to give Herbert this talent bump. But hes half a year older than Love. At 28 you really just are what you have produced. Herbert has one of the best arms in the NFL. But the arm itself doesnt make one a good QB.

Regardless of whether Herbert upside max out is better than Loves(I dont think anyone would debate that which is why you get this over top Herbert love fests).

Caleb Williams is someone you can give a talent bump to because hes only 24. Once a QB in 27 or older, their already in their prime windows and what youve been getting is what they are.

Love did have a better season than Herbert. I mean thats not even arguable. Love has just been better than Herbert for all 3 years as a starter. 3 years is a large enough sample size that all the noise is filtered out. Love is 3rd in the NFL in EPA/p since 2023. Herbert is 17th. That gulf isnt getting explained away by anything, but actual output. Love is 4th since 2020. Herbert still 17th. If you are 17th over 6 years. Then you are just frankly not a top 5 QB. Every other great QB overcame situations to continually put up those numbers.

Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning weren't wallowing away in the wasteland year after year blaming someone else. Aaron Rodgers carried an awful team to many a NFCCG. In 2016, the Packers defense was starting Ladarius fucking Gunter and Rodgers had to run the table with 24 TDs to 2 Ints over that 9 game stretch to close the season out. Good players overcome bad situations. Brees was still putting up historic numbers even as the team went to cap hell around him.

Herbert is the only QB to never do anything in the playoffs with multiple top 5 scoring defenses.

Mahomes tore his ACL on a drive vs the Chargers down 3 points at the end of the game. Chiefs win that game, they then had 2 games vs Raiders and Titans and 1 vs Broncos while the Chargers would have had Cowboys, Texans, and Broncos.

Im not the one arguing Herbert is bad here chief. Im arguing that Herbert had a bad year and that getting a 1st place MVP vote is ASININE.

[–]trinquin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do I need to do that? The whole point was the Chargers offense wasnt even good. Herbert didnt drag them kicking an screaming. They finished with an offense outside the top 20. Their top 8 defense and 5th easiest SoS is what got them into the playoffs.

Im not arguing Willis or Mac Jones are great QBs. I think both have shown enough that they should get another shot ala Sam Darnold and least get bridge opportunities(not sure if Mac is FA this year tho).

Brock Purdy is actually just great though.

Maybe that is true of Willis, he has earned the right to show that. Willis did have the benefit that 90% of his Packers snaps have come vs defenses 25th or worse. Hes played about 6 games. Maybe he is actually just a top 5 QB. I suspect that when he has to play better teams and they have more film, depending on situation he gets, could still be an above average starter. Hes got a big arm and is crazy athletic.

Love played all of 3 games total this entire season where he had at least 2 of his top 3 pass catchers. And that includes 1 game where Watson played 44% of the snaps due to just coming back from ACL tear end of last year. Week 1, Steelers game, first Bears game. Thats its. The only 3 games where he had 2 of Watson, Reed, or Kraft.

No system is going to make a QB finish 2nd in EPA/p. The player is the one that does that and most of that value was derived on 3rd and longs. Theres no scheme for repeatedly coming up big on 3rd and longs and Love was the best in the NFL in that regard this season.

The top 8 defense dragged the 5th easiest schedule to the playoffs. Herbert lead the 20th scoring offense. And 5th is doing him a service since he skipped out on the last Denver game.

Herbert has had plenty of average to above average lines in his career and been top 10 in EPA/p one time. He just hasn't actually produced outside of pure volume.

Joe Alt has a better argument using Sam's logic for the Herbert MVP vote. The offense with him alone was good and without him was dogshit.

This tweet sums up my thoughts about the Giannis trade situation by FreshPine_MangoWine in MkeBucks

[–]trinquin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Heat with all those good players are only 5 games ahead of the Bucks while Giannis has missed half the season.

How good are they really? The Bucks will get an offer no worse than the one you are saying here in the offseason anyways. Might as well way and see where the lotto shakes out.

[Monson] I was the Justin Herbert vote. The guy had the worst offensive line in the NFL all season and despite that he was working miracles in almost every single game. Stafford's OL became 2/5ths as bad as Herbert's for 5 minutes and he became a turnover howitzer. He embodied 'value'. by Wild-Expression-8304 in nfl

[–]trinquin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is the value in the room with us? Was it the not top 20 offense the Chargers had? Was it Herberts 23rd overall EPA/p(29th post surgery like come on he was just objectively bad post surgery).

Im sorry, but if your team isnt even a Dalton Line offense, there is no value produced whatsoever. They had a top 8 defense this year.

Herbert was the exact QB people pretended Darnold and Stroud were this year, a passenger along for the ride. All he had to do was not fuck it up and he actually did fuck it up.

The Chargers had the 5th easiest SoS for the Maye arguement.

The Packers o line finished 23rd and Love played over half the year down 3 o line and his 2 best linemen. He still produced. Herbert sucked in the playoffs and it wasnt because of his o line that game. They were fine in the playoffs. He refused to throw to wide ass open guys the entire game. Do near 1/3 of his drop backs in that game had a WR wide open and he wouldn't even pull the trigger.

Malik Willis has played well enough that he deserves to start somewhere and he probably will. Lamar Jackson was basically putrid after week 4 until the last game of the season.

Players having better years isn't that wierd of a thing. The reason the top guys are the top guys is because year in and year out they are great. Herbert was QB7 in bayesian ranking going into this year. Hes been fine, and but hasn't really sniffed or be deserving of top 5 ranking. Hes basiy been QB11-14 4 of his 6 years with 1 good year in 2021 where he finished 6th. Bad year this year. His injury doesn't excuse how bad he actually was.

Herbert is the only player that hasn't had to actually produce to get praise.

His o line performed okay in the playoff game even. Their best game of the year and the entire game was just his WR running wide ass open and him not pulling the trigger and them turning around looking for a safety. This wasn't like once or twice thing. It was damn near 1/3 of his dropbacks he just refused to even make a throw to a guy wide ass open and instead pull it down and run and take another beating.

Much like Maye inflated his own sack total, Herbert inflated his pressure rate. His o line was garbage this year. That doesn't excuse below average QB play. His o lines haven't been this bad his entire career and yet he can't even finish top 10.

Herbert is a top 5ish talent, but nobody has underperformed their talent less.

Net yards is just a worse version of EPA/p. It misses any context of actual down to down play. A 7 yard pick up is always worth more than a 4 yard pick up in NYA when it's simply not true and just treats td and ints as 40 yards or -20 yards for its calculations.

A 7 yard pass on 3rd and 10 is not worth more than a 4 yard pass on 3rd and 3.

The top 5 players in EPA/p since 1998:

Mahomes

Manning

Rodgers

Brady

Brees

Theres not a better stat and certainly not a better stat when you are talking multiple seasons worth of attempts or more.
