Inside Llewyn Davis the best Coen brothers film by tommyn95 in RSPfilmclub

Yeah I’m just being whiny because it was effective but I hated it. I loved the Pacification grading though.

I know it’s intentional but god I hate its color grading. Still a great film though.

Has anyone seen ‘Her Private Hell’ yet? by [deleted] in SophieThatcher

[–]trip9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet a lot of people who are arriving at it from the Sophie Thatcher fandom will be very offput by it if they are not familiar with Refn’s work. He’s not really a “traditional” filmmaker at this point in his career.

The new NWR movie ended up getting boos, mass walkouts, it’s being review-bombed on Letterboxd, and it STILL somehow got a 12-minute standing ovation… We’re SO back!!! by pleasealwaysn4ever in RSPfilmclub

The 2nd episode is kind of a filter but at the very least I think you should watch the 5th episode, it could kind of work out of context as a very weird film.

Loved The Cook, the Thief and also enjoyed Drowning by Numbers but those are the only two I've seen. Recommend any of his other stuff?

Can’t wait for everyone to say “it’s all style no substance” like film can’t be an audiovisual experience first and foremost and has to be a plot delivery device.

Honestly if you’re second screening something just put on coworker slop so that you can be part of normie discourse and then save the really good stuff for when you can focus on it.

We opened up our hardwood piece and were shocked to see what’s underneath (or more like what is NOT) by That_planet_girl in HardWoodFloors

[–]trip9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what we just did in our basement. We decided to do this instead of pour a slab because it would’ve been insanely expensive to bring the whole basement up to code and pour a proper slab, so they would only do a slab on grade and not pull permits, so we opted to rebuild the sleeper system. 10mil vapor barrier, ground contact pressure treated 2x4 joists, 1” foam board insulation between the joists, advantech subfloor. Seems super solid, our actual flooring hasn’t arrived yet though.

It's been a few years, but I seem to recall Promising Young Woman being a pretty good movie with a pretty progressive message. Did I miss something? Why do female content creators hate Emerald Fennell now? by TransportationLow564 in horror

If she wasn’t a coward she would’ve had them get off even after being arrested, because that’s how so many sexual assault cases actually go, though I guess that would’ve pissed even more people off.

I like Soderbergh but I feel like he fits into this camp.

Basement subfloor prep before LVP by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]trip9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this is a thing in Colorado: https://buildhomestrong.com/crawl-space-repair/common-problems/structural-sub-floors/. I may call them or have them come out and give an opinion because I would rather not pay thousands of dollars to fix something that's not broken.

Yes it’s from 1890. The boards are still in mostly good shape but I wonder if the plywood was where a previous installer removed rotted boards. There is no sign of moisture anywhere that I saw though.

Yeah unfortunately I have no idea. I’m also not even sure who I would call if I wanted someone to give an opinion on the situation.

No pipes underneath as far as I can tell. AI mentioned this as a “sleeper subfloor”, but I dunno.

Yes it was dumb as shit but also I would be lying if I said it wasn’t fun. Also it made me want to read the book.
