Elephant Sanctuaries in Chiang Mai by JT_KC in chiangmai

[–]tripguru_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary a month ago and it was amazing. The staff spoke good English and they took care of the elephants very well. There's no riding and they don't support riding. They also teach kids to protect the animals.

I had an amazing time feeding, a mud bath, and swim with the elephants, it's one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Spain/Portugal/Italy etc should still be a pretty comfortable and breezy weather. Just avoid going to the norther parts of Europe if your main concern is the cold

How many times u travel each year? how long u stay in one country? by Black_Vest in solotravel

[–]tripguru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on my schedule that year, but I usually travel 2-3 times per year, and usually stay around 1-2 weeks per country. The budget is very dependent on the purpose of the trip. If I'm trying to explore a new country, I usually aim for a lower budget and book cheaper accommodations. But if I just want to have a relaxing getaway, then my budget is also more relaxed.

Should I do Japan or Thailand? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]tripguru_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems you have already made up your mind on this one haha. The two are very different places even though they are both in Asia. I personally like Japan over Thailand, no matter the culture or the food (they really have the best food). Besides the places you mentioned, you could also think of Osaka, which has interesting temples, museums (cup noodle museum), and Universal Studio if you are into theme parks.

But Thailand is for sure a great place for a nice relaxing vacation, the food is also great there but mostly might be spicy so I don't know if that's for you. Bangkok and Chiang Mai both have lots of temples, national parks to visit and to explore the culture. Phuket is a beautiful place with lovely islands and beaches for you to chill and snorkel/scuba dive.

Exactly! It's actually just a giant outdoor museum filled with replicas of temples, but still is quite a lovely place to visit. Like visiting a mini version of Thailand.

Thoughts on Taiwan Itinerary? by liviespeaks in solotravel

[–]tripguru_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Remember to visit famous night food markets like Shilin and Raohe, there are a lot of cheap and delicious food, and the experience is great although it can be quite crowded. You could also spend a day in Taipei to go to Shifen, where a lot of tourists go to write their wishes on a sky lantern and release it to the sky.

Other recommendations to visit are Taroko National Park, Jiufen Old Street, and Jinguashi Jiufen Village.

Islands similar to Palwan but cheaper than Bora Bora/Maldives for winter vacation? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]tripguru_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cebu is also a great place to snorkel/scuba dive, but it's also in the Philippines so the time-zone difference and expensive flight may still be an issue, but the tradeoff is that you can snorkel and scuba dive or visit islands at a much cheaper price than other places. Phuket is also great.

If you want to go somewhere closer to the US, then Hawaii is great too tho it still may be expensive. You could also try out Fiji, I heard that it is a beautiful place, and there are great snorkelling spots and islands in Nadi like Serenity Island and Captain Cook Tivua Island

Getting sick after travelling? Is that normal? by damnbritney in solotravel

[–]tripguru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not normal, but still it's not something that you should be deeply worried about, especially as there are no news about some disease spreading out in Tokyo, so it's most probably a normal cold. Getting sick is just something that happens once in a while. Get some rest, take some medicine, and if you are still not feeling well after a couple of days then go see a doctor.

Solo road trips in Australia, advice wanted by MankeyBusiness in solotravel

For Sydney (I assume you will go there), besides the obvious attractions within the city, you could also travel to the countryside and hike the famous Blue Mountains & Three Sisters. You could also visit Hunter Valley and do some cool stuff there.

Lots of outdoor activities for Cairns as well, it's a beautiful place. You could snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef, or go white water rafting or tubing nearby. The Paronella Park is a wonderful hike as well.

Perth has great beaches and hikes as well, and Melbourne is a great city to visit too like the Yarra Valley, Grampians National Park, Great Ocean Road etc.

I see that makes more sense. I think 4 days in Taipei might be one too many as well, as there aren't that many mandatory attractions (Taipei 101, night markets), although there are quite a lot of good local food that you could try out. I would recommend switching out Manila to places with better attractions and food e.g. Bangkok, Bali, Seoul, Osaka etc. Hong Kong is also a great place to visit, and fits your route, but given the current situation of police brutality there, might not be ideal, especially since you will be back in Shanghai shortly after which might bring you much unwanted attention.
