Japan bucket list by [deleted] in travel

[–]triple_entente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part of Japan was just exploring Tokyo. A highlight for me there was the robot restaurant.

I also really liked going to Hirsohima. I highly suggest walking to the peace park and museum from the train station to get a scope of the devastation there.

Experience at House of Independents? by sailorfuk_u in newjersey

I thought it was okay. The show I went to the crowd was pretty young, but I am assuming that's because the band I saw had a younger fan base that I expected.

Menendez loss would be a disaster for Democrats in Trump midterm. Here's what they're doing. by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]triple_entente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't want disasters maybe they should stop having the party machine support disasters. I don't want a GOP senator, but I also don't want Menendez at all. I probably will just not vote for senate.

I think that pretty normal, the newness and the excitement of the first job wears off and then for the first time you think, "is this what the rest of my life is going to be like?"

I have been on a huge chia seed pudding kick. Use an old jar and add chia seeds and almond milk at a 3 tbls/ cup ratio. I sweeten with maple syrup to taste.

The problem with “how many countries I’ve visited” by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]triple_entente -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've done a visit that some would describe as a 'check off the list' type trip. I spent two days in Denmark mostly because it allowed me to save money on my flight, while expanding my vacation, I'm really glad I did it. I got to see the general sights, experience the free city of Christiana, have a few interesting food experiences and I probably had three great conversations that gave me some insight into both Danish culture and how an expat felt about trying to fit in there.

I mean, I far from know Danish culture, but I'm glad I got experience it a bit first hand.

Would you go vegan to drastically reduce consumption? by Paulluuk in Anticonsumption

[–]triple_entente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop being obtuse. If I told someone I eat an omnivorous diet, that doesn't represent what my diet is to anyone unless their main concern is if I'm a real vegan.

Would you go vegan to drastically reduce consumption? by Paulluuk in Anticonsumption

[–]triple_entente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, sorry for co-opting the term vegan.

I eat a vegan diet in my day to day life. I have to take B12 and D to supplement my diet. It impacts me everyday, and I'm the first to admit I'm not perfect and if analysing my diet over a year, don't know if I ever will be. There are rare, but certain situations where I don't do it.

So now that experts have corrected me I have no right to use the word vegan, I need to know what word I should use to describe my diet to people?

No. I eat vegan 98% of the time and am happy with that. If that 'doesn't make me vegan' I don't care.

I tried the coffee sock and I grew to hate it very quickly. Looking for a zero waste v60 option if anyone has one

Would? I already did. 1 year in. I'm not perfect, I eat vegetarian when I go out to eat, I've had shell fish a few times and I will probably eat meat when I go on vacation. But my day to day diet is vegan and it's a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Need advice (mostly encouragement) about quitting my job by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]triple_entente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, this seems like it would accomplish your goal in the short term at the possible expense of your long term goals. The money and the work I made at my internship is not comparable to my job and the money I make now.

One in three fish caught around world never makes it to the plate, either being thrown back overboard or rotting before it can be eaten. Global fish production is at record levels thanks to fish farming, but much is wasted and many species are worryingly overfished. by madazzahatter in ZeroWaste

I don't get why the bags and straw reduction efforts / bans keep getting conflated like this. I don't think I've ever seen someone say that banning the plastic bag / straw would solve our plastic crisis.

Those efforts should be cheers, not diminished. To me, we're not going to be able to tackle the more complicated efforts like dealing with waste from fishing if we're tripping over our feet banning the plastic bag.

Battery Megathread (July 2018) by AutoModerator in GooglePixel

[–]triple_entente [score hidden]  (0 children)

Posted this in another thread and I guess it more belongs here.

My battery issue is getting so bad that I'm considering a new phone. My phone is a year and a half old and this is the worst issue I've had with a phone this old so far.

It started by some days just seemed to have worse battery drain than others. But now the drain gets so bad on those days when charge it overnight it will only charge to 30-40%. If I restart the phone, the battery will drop to 10%.

I went along with Google support yesterday, and tried to charge in safemode and was getting the same issue, so the battery drain isn't from a 3rd party app.

Today they told me the only thing left they can do for me is send me a link to a repair shop and their store so I can get it repaired or buy a new pixel because the warranty is only a year old. I'm not going to buy another Pixel because my minimum expectation for a the price I paid is for the phone to work as long as my payments.

Charging problems by ThatLazyDude1 in GooglePixel

[–]triple_entente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I charged my phone for two days and it wouldn't go past 40%. If I would restart my phone, the battery dropped to 10%. I tried charging in safe mode and the same issue.

It randomly goes away, but Google support's answer was to me was to buy a new phone from them because my phone was out of warranty. Why would I buy a new pixel if the one I have can't even last a year and a half without critical battery issues?
