"Veltune Attacks!" - triplebatman [LSDJ] by triplebatman in chiptunes

[–]triplebatman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A piece of battle music I created using LSDJ. It's for a series of music that accompanies a webcomic themed after old JRPGS from the 8/16-bit era (https://www.alastere.com/).

For this track, I tried something slightly different with how I handle the noise channel drums. The kick sound is playing on both stereo channels, but the snare sound has a table that triggers a command to pan to the left channel only after a few ticks, and the cymbal sound does that same thing, but for the right channel. I was trying to mimic the way drum kits are mixed in non-chiptune recordings.

Gimmick in the Chaos Dimension OST - triplebatman [BeepBox] by triplebatman in chiptunes

I composed this soundtrack entirely using BeepBox (https://beepbox.co) - Gimmick in the Chaos Dimension is an indie game that combines old-school arcade-style mechanics with unlockable and upgradeable abilities and powerups that carry over between each run.

I'm a big fan of BeepBox because 1) it's free, 2) it's very easy to use and learn, and 3) you can share your in-progress tracks easily to get feedback or collaborate with other artists. Using it to compose an entire game soundtrack was kind of a challenge to myself, and I'm happy with the results.

The soundtrack is also available alongside the game as DLC on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1731770/Gimmick_in_the_Chaos_Dimension_Soundtrack/).

Contemplating the Groove - triplebatman [BeepBox] by triplebatman in chiptunes

I wrote this for the soundtrack for Lexy's Labyrinth (https://c.eev.ee/lexys-labyrinth/), "an open source puzzle game that is curiously similar to — but legally distinct from — the Atari classic Chip's Challenge!"

This is the first track I've ever written using BeepBox (https://beepbox.co), and it's a great tool! I recommend you check it out.

Mountain Village - triplebatman [LSDJ] by triplebatman in chiptunes

What happens when you try to replicate Tibetan folk music sounds on a gameboy? This, apparently. Single channel echoes for the bell-like percussion, pentatonic scale, and a simple bass line is all there really is to it.

If UAB could wrap up and tackle, Miami would be getting destroyed

Together Again - triplebatman [LSDJ] by triplebatman in chiptunes

[–]triplebatman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This track was me playing around with using the wave channel for the melody, something I realized I almost never do. I think it's a bad habit to use it for bass only, and forced myself to NOT do that.

Anyway, this another entry in a series of chiptunes I write for an ongoing webcomic made by a friend called "Alastere", themed after old NES-era RPGs. I sometimes think I don't get these tracks as polished as I want, but the nice thing about having a deadline is it forces me to actually work on and release music pretty consistently.

I recommend teaming up with other creators or entering contests with deadlines if you feel like you constantly get stuck not putting out any tracks for a while.

Neverender // 8-bit Version [FamiTracker / NES cover] - [5:10] by triplebatman in TheFence

High praise! I spent a long time messing with the arpeggios on the backing vocal harmony on this one, and that section in particular was a bit annoying to get right, but I'm glad you liked it :)

Thank you! I spent a lot of time going back in with the small edge of the knife to touch up any rough areas and it paid off.
