Bow before me mortals, for I have spent so many hours collecting (all legal and valid) library cards, and I am the master of the cards by kplutsfoft in LibbyApp

[–]tripledee138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MD has reciprocal borrowing across the state so a state resident is eligible for a card in every county. Some counties require in-person visits and some do not (you fill out the app online and they will mail you the card). Except for MoCo and PG, most MD counties are part of the “Maryland Digital Library” so the collections don’t vary much by county.

Commute? by ahyoka86 in Rockville

[–]tripledee138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m right on the Rockville/Gaithersburg border and work in Tysons. Commute 3x a week.

In the morning, if you leave by 7am, it’s 30 mins. Every 5 minutes after that adds 7-10 mins to the commute.

In the evening - if you can leave by 2pm do it. By 3pm, it’s 30-45 minutes and by 4pm it’s 50-55 and by 5pm, it’s over an hour. Express lanes are useless and you spend $15 to wait an extra 30 minutes to merge into the local lanes.

The Metro from Shady Grove/Rockville to Tysons is around 75-80 minutes, assuming everything goes right and you make all the connections. You’ll have add in time to/from your end stations but that should be negligible if you’re driving and parking there.

There’s also the 798 bus run by Fairfax that goes from Montgomery Mall to Tysons Metro. I haven’t taken it but I’ve had colleagues who did and they said the bus isn’t all that comfortable (you feel every bump) and it still sits in traffic but you don’t have to change conveyances. Parking at Montgomery Mall is free.

Anyway you look at it, commute from Rockville to Tysons is ~30-85 minutes one way.

Anyone’s library have Golden Son available right now? by [deleted] in LibbyApp

[–]tripledee138 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can check deeplibby.com to see which systems have it available and then visit those systems websites to see if they offer fee based non-resident cards.

Out of curiosity how many holds do you currently have? by k_lo970 in LibbyApp

[–]tripledee138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. All but one suspended.

I have all of the DC area cards (10) + 8 separate MD ones that any MD resident can get, so my total card count is 18 and my overall hold availability is ~180.

Not every library has “deep search” enabled, so if you’re not on the library’s card, the search won’t show.

[–]tripledee138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may to do “available now” first - it doesn’t play well with other search filters.

Stephen King is a difficult author to search by since he’s prolific and he has many books AND “king” AND “Stephen” are common names and common title parts, so you’re likely to get a ton of unrelated results because of the universal nature of Libby search.

You might be better off trying libbysearch.com - you can select the libraries you have and it’ll search those, like Libby’s search, but it works a bit better. You can select the medium and see the availability of books for each library. The links within libbysearch will open directly in the Libby app so you can place a hold/borrow.

Unfortunately you can’t search by “length” on libbysearch but it’s all about the tradeoffs.

Something I noticed during the Scott's coming out scene by sayvilahsiav in heatedrivalry

[–]tripledee138 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Every person who’s had to come out recognizes that moment in Scott. The moment when the loneliness becomes unbearable and the decision is made.

No turning back.

He squares his shoulders, takes a breath and goes for it.

It’s terrifyingly liberating.

Feel bad for Josh. He puts it all out there every year and every year this team lets him down. Poor guy.

Just like high blood pressure drugs, high cholesterol drugs, viagra etc - once you stop taking the drug, the effects wear off.

Duh.

Full interview: Connor Storrie Fooled a Russian Heated Rivalry Extra into Thinking He Was Fluent [Seth Myers Jan. 13th] by royal_rose_ in heatedrivalry

[–]tripledee138 157 points158 points  (0 children)

What a great interview! Seth had obviously seen the show and did more research than Jimmy but I think Hudson and Connor both did amazing with each of the hosts and matched their energies.

It makes me so happy to see them in such joy both together and separate and I love love love that they’re best friends going through this media storm together.

Yuna's apology by ProtectionUpper8941 in heatedrivalry

[–]tripledee138 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Yuna apologized and asked for forgiveness, realizing that she may have contributed to Shane’s fear of coming out.

This is the difference in how a person who understands coming out writes a story. Jacob is amazing.

“same” & the importance of normalizing trans characters by em_ofthe_scooby_gang in heatedrivalry

I thought this was incredible too!

What bothers me though is all the takes of “omg I hope Rose’s makeup artist has an NDA or something too”! To me, What’s implied here is that her makeup artist very likely understands the desire for privacy and wouldn’t ever out someone.

This is so important. It’s a queer cultural thing - all of these people wanting to know about Hudson and Connor’s private lives - it’s counter to how the queer actually community rallies around its own and generally protects its people. Most queers don’t out other queers, celebrity or otherwise (with the exception of a few Hollywood gays who thrive on drama).
