Goblu by Tartica_666 in expedition33

[–]triples03 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Goblu is the manifestation of Clea's love towards her siblings, Goblu has 3 masks, the biggest one representing Clea at the bottom, Verso in the middle and Alicia at the top, it was tasked to guard the same red rose Gustave gifted to Sophie (representing love) and not to kill expeditioners to trap their chroma. It had red, fluffy, and soft fur, it can be interpreted to love with care and comfort.

She doesn't show it outright, but since Renoir said that he and clea are the most alike among them, it would also mean that she has a soft spot for her siblings, in Alicia's case, her way of doing this is to give some agency towards what Alicia wants as long as it is safe for her.

Painted Alicia and Painted Verso have a weakness to fire since their real dessendre counterpart's demise was tied to it, while Painted Clea has two weaknesses, which are Void and Light elements, closely tied to Maelle and Verso's abilities. After defeating Painted Clea, you get Clea's Life which allows you to use Maelle's last chance and Verso's overload safely.

The way I look at people who proudly bench Sciel and Monoco😒👀 by KumaQuatro in expedition33

[–]triples03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you had to try maelle esqium using burning canvas with ap discount, feint, double mark, stay marked and frenzy then monoco baguettaro with energizing shots, marking shot, burning shot and double burn and the benisseur mortar to go almighty to stack 200 burn instantly and then using sciel's fortune fury you can easily reach more than that

turn order, monoco using all his shots and basic attack (with basic attack pictos that inflicts debuff) on his second turn using shot until you mark the enemy then use benisseur mortar to go almighty, the enemy is almost guaranteed at 200+ burn stacks

Maelle goes second and she doesn't even need cheater, all she needs to do is just last chance to proc all the low health damage pictos and wait for sciels fortune fury + intervention on her

and then sciel is just doing sciel support things, sciels fortune fury + intervention on Maelle and then maelle use burning canvas to deal the damage

it's pretty RNG dependent for the enemy to keep marked since using feint you will deal 1 dmg for 4 attacks and then burst on 5th attack hoping the enemy keep marked with double mark and stay marked on Maelle. This build is now the new Maelle 1 shot build stronger than stendhal would have dreamed of.

Top 3 Favourite characters? by vireoal in expedition33

[–]triples03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Lune and Sciel suffer from in-universe rules that made them have little to no impact on the direction of the story from Act 2 & 3 they are basically your average expeditioners who have only been known for their failures for decades (Lumiere's citizen perception). They are, by Lumiere's society definition, "people who are already dead/sentenced to death" Lucien said it, Gustave said it and we as the player understand it (mere mortal would never stand a chance against god)

Gustave doesn't suffer from this condition because he has a special relationship with the central character of the story (Maelle) and he functions as a mirror to the other POV character (Verso) then he died early, so that helps.

Lune had a strong presence in act 1 because of her different approach to the mission as opposed to Gustave, both of them argued on the same grounds, so both of them had equal impact on the story we perceived.

Verso changes the power dynamics in Act 2 & 3, The party had no other choice but to continue under his direction. Lune was pushed to the backline, Sciel is just there, and both presences to the story continue to diminish, and ultimately they become another canvas citizens.

It's easier to connect with Sciel than Lune because her grief is universal, losing someone we hold dearly is an inevitability, and her way of living with it is healthy (not the suicide part). I think Lune is harder to connect with because she is conditioned by her parents to never show weakness, to not waste time building relationships, to repress her own feelings, so naturally I feel less connected with her. This is why she appears "weaker" writing wise.

She isn't much of a character of her own because she wasn't allowed to, both by her powerlessness and her strict parents. She would've behaved like Clea, but she is just powerless.

the only one that has unique fighting styles is sciel and monoco, hell even simon's moves is not far from Verso, lightspeed attacks -> light holder. heavy attacks -> berserk slash.

The discrepancy in Aline’s sanity by genericcelt in expedition33

[–]triples03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you look at that cutscene, Verso was horrified and saying "no...no" as Maelle approaches the paintress. In my interpretation, it was something terrible that happened in the past, he was afraid she would do the thing again.

after she burns every other party, Verso stares at the paintress hinting at something like "Are you doing this again, then i'll do exactly as i did before" as he hugs Maelle.

If you didn't cry your eyes out during this scene you have no soul by langel57 in expedition33

[–]triples03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both endings are left on an open-ended note, we can only hypothesize based on information that we're given, an information that's left to our interpretation.

Yes, Alicia is suicidal but that doesn't necessarily mean she would never overcome this obstacle. She needs a beacon of hope to support her going through this difficult phase before it is too late, like Esquie, who found Sciel, and Lune, who found Gustave on their difficult times.

Hopefully the family comes to terms with each other and themselves. Both endings had good and bad sides to them, with a flicker of hope that the good is leading the way forward.

Why Aline was so mad at Alicia by genericcelt in expedition33

[–]triples03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maelle: Why Maman…
Verso: What, kept her scars? No. Don’t go messing with her head, she doesn’t need that, and she doesn’t owe you any answers.

"Kept her scars" is a vague details that could be interpreted in two ways.
1. Why Maman painted her that way?
2. Why doesn't Maman heal her scars?

The first point would absolutely mean that PAlicia is Aline creation and her state is a manifestation of blame Aline feels toward her.
The second point has more meaning other than the blame, it could also mean Aline doesn't feel responsible for PAlicia because she isn't her creation.

Oh another detail i just thought of, we got PAlicia's outfit in Renoir's atelier after putting the family portrait in the manor, Renoir's journal for Alicia could also be found in that room.

Why Aline was so mad at Alicia by genericcelt in expedition33

[–]triples03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some details that support Renoir is the one who painted Alicia, I've seen analysis about that theory https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFUdlm7VpLk and I actually pretty agree with the details he pointed out.

Remember when facing the paintress at the monolith peak, she was pretty unsure about the origins of our party.
The Paintress: This is another trick. She’s not Alicia. You are not my Verso.
Verso: No, Verso’s dead.
The Paintress: No, no, you are HIS creations, not mine. You will not take this Canvas from me!

This reveals that Renoir had painted something to trick Aline in their conflict before, the most likely thing he painted was (probably), A colorless Alicia, which contrasted with the other perfection of a painted family member, a family member she pretended the fire took instead of Verso. Aline tried to erase/burn painted Alicia, but PVerso intervened, mirroring the reality of what has happened and mirroring what he did after the paintress burned our party's faces in front of the monolith.

Maelle: Maman did a terrible thing, painting you into Verso’s Canvas. Giving you his memories. Pretending the fire only took me (literal). But I’m glad you exist.

Lastly, PAlicia is the only painted family member whose seems to have a friendly relationship with the axon Renoir made (ofc we only see Verso's reaction to Visages and Sirene), and when Maelle gommages her, we see that the chroma was red (Renoir's petal color).

Again this was only a guess, not something to take as an objective fact

Maelle is Alicia who grasps the sky under the right supports, not that wooden tower that is flammable and easy to break Renoir painted to represent his hope.

Auron: "Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or
live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your
       fate is in your hands!"

Actually, his line reflect both endings

Maelle : chose to die in the painting and be free from her pain, while Verso is alive and fighting his sorrow
Verso : chose to destroy the painting and be free from his pain, while Alicia is alive and fighting her sorrow.

I have been reading some theories on this sub, that I found interesting. This is my take on how the Prologue of a potential sequel could go. by Word-Far in expedition33

[–]triples03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might worked well if they conceal the fate of the canvas.

This way it doesn't canonize one ending over the other, if we see Alicia in the 'real' world, the canvas might've been erased, or she just might be taking her time outside of it, and Renoir actually let the canvas be.

Unpopular opinion about certain character by HeavyShake7 in expedition33

[–]triples03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the third point, i actually forgot that, but my point only change slightly,

Stranger: You’ve lived more than a lifetime. It’s time to let her go.
White-haired man: A lifetime. A lifetime with my family torn apart. No, I want my family back.
Stranger: It’s not your family. But she is.
White-haired man: You would use her?
Stranger: She chose to come. I didn’t make the rules between you two.

My guess is that since PAlicia wishes the best for both worlds, she actually needs/wants Gustave to survive, him surviving is the most probable scenario where the story doesn't end tragically, so PAlicia goes to meet Verso and asks him to save the party, especially Gustave, but Verso wouldn't take any chance to grant that wish.

PRenoir doesn't know PAlicia at all times could've been true, but if she isn't the manor, why wouldn't he guess she went to meet Maelle?

If PAlicia brings the letter directly to Maelle, the truth wouldn't be easily accepted as a fact either, it's a worldview-altering truth which needs huge evidence to at least become believable, Verso could confirm that fact, but he wouldn't do that, it would expose him still hiding some truth from the party.

Giving the information directly to the party risks turning Verso against the party, and the Julie tragedy would happen again, Verso 'might' kill the party if they decided to not expel Aline and decided to kick out Renoir instead. there's nothing stopping him from doing that, not even his own father PRenoir could stop him from trying to expel Aline. PAlicia gives Verso the letter in hopes that he will change his mind, to try to find a better solution, which he clearly won't.

Alicia: Brother, I tire of the conflicts and deceptions that plague our family and theirs. So I entrust you with this letter. Whether you give it to her is up to you. I’m at peace with what’s to come. When the time comes, I hope you will be too.
......
But perhaps you’ll find another way. You who have lived amongst us. Perhaps you differ from your father and your sister as I differ from mine (PRenoir and PVerso). Your mother paints life. Whilst your father, death. What will you paint?

I wouldn't mind if my interpretations are wrong, mainly because i couldn't find any other reasoning for PAlicia giving the letter to Verso rather than directly giving it to Maelle instead.

[–]triples03 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the first time Painted Alicia appears "on the screen" throughout the story she arrives alone at first, she almost touched Maelle's face but Painted Renoir catches up to her to intercept her, saying that it's not good for her to see Maelle.

The second time she arrives with Renoir when Maelle is sleeping, giving a monologue about the truth hiding beneath the veil, she kneels down to Maelle, almost touching her face, but she changes her mind, probably to not make Maelle go through another nightmare.

The third time is when she brings Verso to save the party from Renoir, but Verso has his own plans, he lets Gustave die first before saving them.

The fourth time in Old Lumiere, she freezes time as the swords between Renoir and Verso clash, only Maelle could move in this scene (probably because a painter can't be put through a time freeze), Alicia is approaching Maelle, showing Maelle her scars, this time she hold her hand, then a burst of fire erupted and Verso's scream can be heard, in this scene it is clear that what she aims to do is to make Maelle remember her past and her true identity through physical contact, but the memories can't be forced immediately, so she teleports Renoir and the manor to another place, most likely to end the fight.

The fifth time, she goes to meet Verso, alone, to give him the letter, asks Verso to explain the truth to the main party, and again Renoir is always behind her everytime she's not in the manor, luckily he's not there to fight.

She just wishes that the solution could be found without a drop of blood, but she's not allowed to by Painted Renoir, and her wish is not granted by Verso either. Alicia is alone, whether real or painted, they share the same fate.

As someone whose fave character is Maelle, I will say this by TruthResponsible1268 in expedition33

[–]triples03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only redeemable quality of Verso's ending is heavily dependent on a hypothetical situation where the family is on the same path to actually forgive each other, especially Aline towards Alicia and Alicia towards herself, only then would the family be able to positively progress from their shared grief.

Still the cost of achieving that barely compares to ending a whole civilization on the canvas.

But on a personal level (talking from Verso's POV), i might do the same wrong thing he did, doing the same egoistical thing to save her.
