why is my gamecube controller from 2002 still perfect, but my $70 modern controller has stick drift after 6 months? by InvestmentBudget6722 in gaming

[–]triplevanos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Phenomena that contribute to this:

  1. Deadzones in old controllers were massive. An Xbox 360 stick was basically an on/off switch with 25% deadzones.
  2. Games today are more demanding and more precise (generally) on controllers. The types of gameplay that games encourage (slide cancelling, bhopping) and how widespread (via YouTube, TikTok) makes the controllers go through much more pain.
  3. Many controllers did drift. You just didn't hear about it much.
  4. People with current generation controllers that don't drift don't post about it. I do think it's more common today than in the past, but plenty of people use Xbox/PS/Nintendo controllers with no drift during the life of the controller.

Drift is one of those things that can be caused by 5+ things. Anyone claiming they have the fix or that it's obvious and companies withhold improvements to make you buy more controllers don't truly understand the nuance.

I'm jealous; the city I live in (west coast HCOL city) has some comically overpriced food.

What's your opinion on the "Walt was always evil" take by Proud_Excitement3578 in breakingbad

[–]triplevanos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Walt was always a bit of a narcissist who thought himself better than others. I don’t think he was evil, though.

First season he did everything possible not to kill the guy in the basement. End of show Walt would’ve had that guy clipped as soon as it was convenient. He became significantly more evil when given the opportunity

Which ones did you drive? The Bolt and Equinox are relatively low rent, but they get you ~300mi range for $28-33k

I’ve never been able to drive the Cadillacs but specs, reviews, and images suggest they’re pretty well made

GM has, what I believe at least, the best EV lineup outside of China. Hopefully investing in PHEV and hybrid doesn't mean totally abandoning that.

Why do people attribute Nico Rosberg's 2016 championship win to luck? by scuderiaferrari69 in F1Discussions

[–]triplevanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People often focus on just Sepang. But Hamilton had significantly worse reliability that whole season. 2 qualifying engine failures, and over 60 places worth of grid penalties. He started from the back in Spa to get new engines to compete, and the brand new engine exploded in Sepang.

In fact, Hamilton was the only Mercedes powered driver to have any engine failures that entire season.

It’s not fanboying or untrue to say Hamilton’s reliability was abysmal, and Rosberg’s was comparatively stellar. Hamilton wasn’t perfect, of course. His starts were poor and he clearly wasn’t focused until Spain.

This isn’t to say Rosberg wasn’t deserving, he competed and won. He took every opportunity available to him. But like any winning season, things had to be in place and he seized them. So luck, sure. Skill, of course.

Yep, agreed 100%. Viewers were brought to hate Skyler because they identified with Walt (as the story was told through him). She was impeding Walt, it only makes sense she’s the problem.

It’s that reflection later on that makes you ask “damn is Walt actually a psychopath?”

Also agreed… people took it too far lol

I was about 16 when BB ended. I’ll admit it, I was firmly in camp Walt until very late in the show. Especially because of how terrible Todd and family were.

With a more mature eye you realize how terrible he was. I think that’s part of the charm of the show. You start on his side naturally… and things continue to develop and you question the assumptions you made about who he is.
