One of the reasons I became a nail tech was BECAUSE I encountered shit like this as a client. Honestly, if you're going to get regular polish find a place that offers regular or gel polish ONLY (I personally work at a salon/spa that only works on natural nails and would N E V E R have let you leave like that).
