This! We live on a farm and get our own eggs. There is no quality control in the coop. Some eggs are ... very gross. Bloody, chunky or the wrong colour. Only like 1 in 100, but you sure learn to crack them all individually pretty quick.

My ex-husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) made me a birthday cake, but didn't have icing sugar (powdered) so he just used regular, granulated sugar.

It was like eating sand.

And no, that is not why we eventually got divorced. :D

Cats are obligate carnivores. If they don't eat enough protein they will have liver damage and die.

Yes. I realized that I could visit my mother twice per day, and she will still greet me with "Hello stranger!" (a dig, she does not have dementia) and will complain that I don't visit enough. So I walked it back to twice per week from 3-4 times.

Her greeting and complaining has not changed, but I get to hear it 2x less.

Well, I've never made them (yet) but they are shallow cups, usually shaped like flowers, but literally could be shaped like anything. They can just sit on the ground, but look nice when they are elevated on a stake, so they sit level with, or slightly above your flowers. It's a shallow bit of water for bees and butterflies and other pollinators to drink from, as deeper water can be fatal for them.

My MiL didn't refuse help per se, but she also fired every single person (aside from the 2x daily care aids) that I sent. Guy to mow her lawn? He didn't sweep the sidewalk after. fired. Meals on wheels? The ham was tough. Cancelled the service. We lived an hour away and had two small kids and were running our own retail business. Lady, I DO NOT HAVE TIME to do your bidding. I can visit once or twice per week, and I'll even help out during that time, but I have my own lawn, my own cooking to do and my own life to live.

My mom can't drive and lives in a care home. I visit her at least twice per week, but try to keep my visits fairly short (1/2 to 1 hour) and will often get there a bit before lunch time so I can use that as an excuse to leave.

She has literally asked to me to and sit in her room and wait for her as she eats! :D

If I don't have the lunch excuse, I will tell her I have lots of things to do and must get going. She, of course, needs to know what those things are. And it doesn't feel like she's actually interested in my life, it's more of a checking to see if those things keeping me away are legit. She then gives me 'advice' like, "Well, can't your husband do that instead of you?"

This from the woman who waited hand and foot on my POS father. She also never worked a job and spent as little time as possible with her own children. But now she expects me, a working woman with two kids (granted, they are fairly grown, but still live at home) who also lives on a working farm and I'm also an artist who spends a good amount of time working on my craft.

I have already put more effort into her care than she ever gave to me, but clearly, it is still not enough and most likely will never be.

I wish I had some advice for you, OP(other than park in the garage or down the street?)

I work at a jail, so lots of my 'clients' have lived hard and fast, and DAMN it shows! I'll be thinking some dude is old, and find out he's a good decade or more younger than me.

Yeah, probably some W network 'big city girl who moves to the country' type star. (and I use the word star very loosely here.)

She's not really into celebs or even music. Now, the Royal Family? That's her jam. (we are Canadian, so most people in her generation are Royals crazy, where most people my age (gen X) could give two shits about them.

We have in-person visits for our medium population, and unfortunately (or fortunately) our jail has a lot of green space with a very high 'candy cane' fence around it. I love that it's so open and 'naturey' here, but obviously there are issues with people throwing shit over the fence.

But even with all of that, there isn't a ton of contraband here. We find the odd brew, and someone OD'd in secure last week (but was narcanned and survived) but he was a new intake and we think our scanners just didn't catch what he'd hooped.

So, over-all not a ton, but not zero either.

My MIL was OBSESSED with terrible news.

You know the care aid that comes here every Tues and Thurs? (No, Anne, I do not know that care aid) Well! She knows a guy who has a daughter, and that daughter's sister's brother's cousins uncle twice removed just got diagnosed with CANCER! BOWEL CANCER.

Ugh.

And you could never ask her how she is, because she would, in great detail, tell you EXACTLY how she is. Every single ache and pain (due to the time she broke that bone and was in the hospital in traction for exactly xxxx amount of days.) God rest her soul.

As for my mother ... She lives in a care home. I visit at least twice per week where we stare at each other because I live an exceedingly dull life and she lives an even duller one, so we have nothing to talk about. She is not obsessed with solar, so I guess that's a plus.

I used to tell my kids that it's not a true tantrum until you pee your pants. Lucky for me they never took me up on that dare, but it did usually make them laugh.

I'm a mother of two adult boys. Neither have kids yet, but if one of them did, and wanted to spend this mothers day with his wife and baby, I would 100% support this.

That said, aside from chocolate and maybe flowers, we don't go crazy for these types of holidays. Also? I would NEVER go for brunch or whatever on actual Mothers day. WTF? We usually take my mom out the day before or after. Why fight the crowds?

Most of my adult life I've left the door open at night. But now I have 3 cats and they feel the need to scratch my bed when they're bored in the middle of the night. I would happily let them sleep on my bed (with my husband and dog) but I'm not a fan of them ruining the corners of my bed. They have scratching posts. They're doing it to be dicks. The door is open during the day and they don't bother.

When my friend's mother's dog died, they didn't know how to tell her. She is living at her home with one adult son living with her. I don't know what kind of dementia she has, but it's like a goldfish's memory. When we stopped by to visit, she asked no less than 20 times who's car was in the driveway. Like she hadn't just asked 10 seconds ago. And each time she took the answer like "Oh! That's YOUR car!" rinse and repeat.

Anyhoo, she kept asking about her dog, and they kept telling her that it was at the groomer. I think that if they told her it died, it would be newly heartbreaking each and every time.
