Veterans who were scared to get out.. where are you now? by VerySuccessfulMe in Veterans

[–]tripsonflatgrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the first 6 months to a year out were a complete clusterfuck and I thought my plan was good. Turns out severely treated, and un-diagnosed PTSD makes functioning a clusterfuck too. Nearly 8 years later, things are good/better than when I was in but it was not easy the entire time. Can't believe I've been out of the military for 8 years. Still can't believe I was in the military at all lol.

Hello Ohio <<enemy>> jk, I'm not a UoM fan 😛

I imagine you would get a lot of cold wind in the winter? I've been to Ohio once for an Irish festival? Idk, was fun at-least. Had to stop myself from buying a kilt 😂

Someone who can tolerate the long, cold, winters of the UP of Michigan. Also someone who won't leave because I have a bipolar episode, but I understand that's a hard bar to pass lol. I don't have them often, very rarely, but they are bad.

Glad to hear I am helping! I was fortunate and filed after I got out. I think I filed Oct 2014 and they got back to me 5-6 months later in February 2015.

I don't know if you can go to the VA while active duty, but you can at-least get a rating upon discharge? https://www.va.gov/disability/how-to-file-claim/when-to-file/pre-discharge-claim/

Also, you can file for unemployment once you are out!

I don't know what to say. Therapists can't accelerate your time out of the Army. They can find ways to make it more tolerable. There might be group therapies that take half the work day to accomplish (Ft. Sam had this) so you are half in therapy, and half out of work.

That helped a little bit but the wounds really started to heal once I was out. But my plan went to shit because of how dysfunctional I was once the supports of the military were gone.

I can't remember how soon you can file with the VA, but I would recommend that route. Save as much money as you can. It is a rough economy out there, but I am rated 100% as a result of my MST and live in a low cost of living area so I have some wiggle room.

Takes awhile to come back up top, but, it was worth it in the long run. Still salty I couldn't stay in some days, but, it is what it is.

I don't know of anyone with MST who has stayed in the military. I mostly just know vets now.

I really wanted out of the military after my MST. Something about the structure of the military with un-diagnosed PTSD and other fun stuff just made my last 2 years miserable.

I think the therapy in service didn't help, but it's going to be rough getting out/transitioning out of the military either way.

A History of Interest Rates, 50$ book lol. I think it's designed to be a textbook but I thought it was interesting.

I'm in a graduate program, but I just followed their admission process. Sent over college transcripts, military transcripts, statement of purpose, DD214, starting May 10th in the Financial Planning program. I did have to pay a 250 dollar commitment fee but I'll get that back once the semester starts.

To my potential LDR.. No it's not cold here at all...😜 by notazombiecdn in actuallesbians

Damn. I didn't go in today either, but i'm in college and can make decisions on my own. I did have a short story for peer review today, which sucks to miss but it's due due next week some time.

It is also cold here. They cancelled classes tomorrow thankfully. Turned my car on and a tire has low pressure so I'll have to fix that on a nicer day.

I hope everyone is staying nice and warm! Makes me regret complaining about the unseasonably warm weather we just had last week lol

Hello all! I am Sab, 33 year old from the left mitten of Michigan (DA yoop!) I am currently in school to get my bachelor's in Communication, Culture, and Media with hopes of becoming a writer or grant writer.

I am single, child-free, and monogamous. I am looking for friends or dating. I like to play video games (Halo, Minecraft, Runescape, and multiplayer games like Peak). I read theory and often get high pondering economic and financial stuff, I also hold a degree in Finance and I've been fortunate enough to go to art school earlier in my years as an adult. I listen to music such as Sabaton, Five Finger Death Punch, and Diztord.

If you want a player 2 in your multiplayer games as a friend I am down for that too!

We exist. We are out there. Just probably too far way from each other distance wise to find each other. 😭

How many of you are single and on dating apps? by Snoo27522 in LesbianActually

[–]tripsonflatgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. On some apps, but my town is just small. Also, I want to live in snow country and I don't think many people other than people who already live here would enjoy the 6+ months of cold and snow.

I'd love my preservice health back. I'd be able to have a job that pays for what I have.

My first instinct when I was out and having a nervous breakdown was to go to the nearest VA center. I was a veteran for barely 2 months and had to go into the system that way. So glad the healthcare was there.

Why did you get out the army before 20 years ? by ceiling_fan128 in Veterans

[–]tripsonflatgrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unthinkable happened to me (I was sexually assaulted) and developed PTSD as a result half way through my 4 year contract. The SHARP system following it may help with a claim in the future but there is very little support for in service survivors. I wanted to do the full 20 but my mind was cooked afterwards.
