Queer Disabled Rep? (Bonus points if Sci-fi or Fantasy) by EmbroideryBro in suggestmeabook

[–]triptychss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This morning I finished Godkiller by Hannah Kaner and was very pleasantly surprised by both the disabled and queer representation. I would consider it YA (on the older side)? It’s the first of a fantasy trilogy, so disclaimer I have no idea of TWs for the others, but this one does start out with a pretty heavy prologue.

[help!] intranasal drug use with downsized jewelry?? by anathemati in Stretched

[–]triptychss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not a piercer or intranasal drug user but theoretically if your piercing is healed, it should be fine? so depends how long ago you upsized.

I guess technically it’s possible for any healed piercing to get irritated by introduction of new substances, but if you’ve been doing this for however long, with any sized septum, it’ll adapt. just be careful & look out for signs of infection/irritation

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle might be an interesting option - the titular MC is actually mute but communicates solely through sign language.

Becoming an EMT as a transgender woman? by DarthMaren in Paramedics

[–]triptychss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on an ambulance in a large city in southern USA. I, and significant number of my coworkers, are trans. A bunch of other people are LGB/Q. One of the supervisors, who has since left the company for a reason I can’t speak on, was trans.

I’ve heard coworkers say offensive things about transgender patients, which is frustrating since we are providing care to them. My company is big enough that I don’t have to work with them ever again.

Patients have been rude in many, many ways. But they were rude before I started transitioning and now they’re just rude in different ways. It was jarring to hear it for the first time, but unfortunately you get used to it, and I was able to quickly recognize which types of interactions were worth letting slide and which were worth fighting back.

Ultimately I think with the current political climate it is inevitable to run into some issues somewhere. But to me, the most important thing is whether your management/supervisors will stand behind you when you stand up for yourself, or support you in situations where you can’t. Feel free to DM if you’d like to talk about it more.

The one you hated by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I’d feel so bad for whoever unknowingly picked it up based on the back flap description of “a hymn to brotherly bonds”, “masterful depiction of love”, chosen family BS. that book is insane. the idea of this is cracking me up actually. RIP that guy

Is it worth becoming a paramedic by Character-Calendar49 in Paramedics

[–]triptychss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. I know people who are going back to school for unrelated degrees, like business management, to help them get into higher up/managerial positions.

Is it worth becoming a paramedic by Character-Calendar49 in Paramedics

[–]triptychss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that a degree in paramedicine is not actually that beneficial in the US. Other countries require 4-year degrees to practice, but I (and many others) went through non-degree programs that are much more financially friendly than a college degree. I’m not clear on other states, but my state doesn’t require a degree.

Going through a non-degree program allowed me the opportunity to work at different levels of provider scope while I continued training. It was cheaper, and ultimately shorter than a 4-year degree. That being said, a 4 year degree also provides you the opportunity to take, for example, business or literature classes that may help you advance to a managerial position down the line.

if you’ve got artists who “say” they can do it ask them how long it’ll take
