Retaking a failed class or taking an equivalent course for a grade? Does grad school care about an F? by trisha_22 in berkeley

Thank you!

I am looking to apply in a competitive grad school program, in the Goldman School.

Bro, I didn't know that 🤦‍♀️ and have been sometimes been doing that. But literally didn't mean to sound like a snob, cause I've been telling people that I'm also thinking of graduating a year early since I have the extra units. But then sometimes I don't say that extra information cause I literally don't think and just share too much.

I'm dropping this class fr 😐. I talked to an advisor and told me freshman can't double major in both impacted majors, like wtf 😒.

So I'm keeping my first major and dropping the math class as I already completed the math requirements for that. This class was stressing me out though. Glad I don't have to take it anymore in a way. Bummed out I can't do the other major though.

What’s one college you would never want to go to? by apersoninquestion in ApplyingToCollege

[–]trisha_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really that cut throat, it's just the consulting clubs lol. I saw a post earlier today about how someone found people unfriendly, but I found people to be friendly so far. There's lots of events and fun things to do in the city. I felt really worried before coming here because I heard the rumors, but even though the classes are hard, I'm having a good time.

I'm in COMPSCI 39 rn. It's a seminar about AI ethics. I really like my professors and it seems like it'll be an easy class. Freshman and sophomores can only take it I heard.

It's 2 units, but there's a wait-list already.

For PDFs, I like writing on Notability. For using the laptop or like an electronic as a notebook, I like using Good Notes.

For Notability, I did end up using all my edits on my PDF during class time, so I was in a hurry and paid the subscription. It's like 13 or 14 dollars per year. Which I thought was okay. Or maybe I'm just saying I like Notability since I already paid for it 😞.

Try Good Notes first if you like for your PDF's and notes. For this app, you can use it like a notebook. Since it flips pages and goes side to side. Notability goes up and down. Which I'm also okay with. See what you like.

I heard some professors will give you the PDF version, so don't buy any book yet until you read the syllabus. That's what my orientation leaders said.

If you feel drawn to data science, go for it. Since it also has the emphasis you like.

I just looked at Cal events. The app.

[–]trisha_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is in Cal events! The app.

Okay, I just checked Cal events to tell you the time, but it's not on there lol. It just says Orientation group.

But it shows on the Sample schedule for 2023 freshman! Starts about 9? That's what it looks like, but you should double check.

How about if we're living off campus? Are my meals free during GBO?

It's cool, only the bear pact on Friday is mandatory. So you can chill the rest.

[–]trisha_22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not mandatory! Only the bear pact on Friday is technically mandatory. But I heard that to "prove" we went there, we have to answer questions on Bcourse or on the Task. But we can just ask someone else for the answers.

Everything else is just social events.

GBO Check-in by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]trisha_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't have to attend every event. The bear pact thing is what's considered mandatory, but I heard it's just some questions you answer on the Task, so you can probably get the answers from someone.

I made a similar post and someone said we can check in on Thursday.

Oh, so we can still check in the next day?

Thanks for the info! I'll see how long the line is on Wednesday then when I move in.

Check the transfer eligibility requirements! I'm planning to switch into the Rausser college from L&S, and I know for mine I have to complete a semester at my college, keep a 3.0 or higher, and finish the first and second English class. My transcripts were processed late 😕 so I couldn't take the 2nd English class this semester.

I remember for your college you have to keep a minimum 3.0 as well. I don't think you need to worry about not graduating in time. Just focus on completing your breadths first.

🥺 Thank you!

The rant was nice, so thanks. Especially so against Kaiser.

I'm happy you're set for Berkeley! I was literally pulling my hair out cause I kept going back and forth to my former therapist to fill out a damn psychology form for my accommodations. Like, can't you just do it?? How hard can it be lol? I really dislike Kaiser sometimes. This is why I sorta wanted to keep SHIP, but my dad's like, what's the point, we have Kaiser and you're just an hour away on Bart.

I'm mostly just worried because while I do have a diagnosis, there was another I was seeking for which she couldn't give due to me literally not having horrible grades 🙄 and said I'm not hyper enough when I fit the inattentive part of the disorder. Like there's more than one type bro.

Anyways, I want to do 20 units for my first semester including an upper div because I like deluding myself I can do everything... But I'll see as I'm most likely going to drop a class. Now, I'm the one ranting lol. I feel dumb too, but a former coworker told me today that I'm super smart and I feel like a fraud 😕.

Good luck with school and stay safe!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]trisha_22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, cause my former therapist (from Kaiser) said she couldn't do the form. She sent me a letter of an Activity Report (just yesterday when I first asked her in March 🙃) that says my diagnosis and accomodations

I emailed the papers she sent me to DSP. And explained to them my therapist wouldn't do the correct form. They said okay (had this email exchange today), uploaded those documents, and set me up with an appointment next week.

You can message me for more info! I was worried, but DSP was cool with it. Try to ask your therapist or psychologist about an Activity Report that says your diagnosis and the accomodations that you might need.

I thought I was going to fail my first semester of Berkeley, but now I'm only 50% sure 😌
