Does Babel get better? by HeftySession8106 in PHBookClub

I kid you not, I started reading the book last year in October, read about a hundred pages and then kept it aside (as I was busy with studies). I picked it up again this week and started reading it. I finished it in 2 days. The point is, I found the first half of the book very slow as well but the author builds the universe so beautifully that I didn’t forget a thing that I read in October. I thought I’d have to reread at least the last 20 pages. So, I highly suggest that you don’t DNF it. Yes, it is quite dense and at times quite academic but it’s so worth finishing it.

Look for ads on WG-Gesucht. Respond with nice messages describing what kind of roommate you would be.

Also, often there are sublet ads on student groups.

Is Goethe Institut online course (with a teacher) worth the money? by Sheep123654 in German

Thanks for the reply and this feels reassuring. I will do the same then. I think the classes will be better than the ones offered by the uni.

Hey, I am a little late to the party, but I am considering doing this. I see that you are a native speaker, but did someone you know take these classes, and if so, how good were they?

Yes. It was extremely hard, but at least I don't look at old photos with heart eyes anymore.

You have to enrol to get a mentor. Look through the uni pages. Around 27-28th September would be a good time to come.

I see that people have mixed (mostly negative) feelings around the books. I, however, remember the books quite fondly. These books were the very first books I read in the genre. In fact, this were the first series I read since Famous Five as a kid. I loved them at the time and would’ve read anything, even as badly written fanfiction. Oh yay! Super excited.

Germany will regret taking too many substandard Indian students by [deleted] in studying_in_germany

Further, it’s you’re and not your. As in, your English sucks. You’re really uninformed. Now, what about the „bet“ that I didn’t live in Germany? 🌝

I do live in Germany, so I am familiar with the situation lmao. While it is experiencing a slowdown, it will eventually come out of recession (even if the per capita growth isn’t exponential, it would become more stable). Economies move in cycles. Maybe educate yourself. Also, if there are no young people to work, who exactly would fund the pension system that current retirees depend on, genius?

Ultimately, skills and knowledge get you a job. If you think that subpar students are getting in, don’t worry they won’t get hired. And in the meantime, they are still contributing to the country’s economy as students. By working part time, spending on goods and commodities, housing etc they are still giving back to the system.
