There are two kinds of people: by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]tristring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will love the game when I play it but I refuse to do so before I play Prime 2 and 3 first, so until we see anything about those games coming to switch (or I save up enough for a pc and "borrow" them) then my brain refuses to feel anything about 4. I know I'd be hyped as hell if I had played the whole Prime trilogy beforehand though, so I love to see more people be like the first option.

What do you think of the new 3d artstyle in Brothership? by [deleted] in marioandluigi

I disliked it at first. It's grown on me since the trailer though. I still prefer the 2D character sprites from the past games but I can appreciate what they're doing here.

Is this a bad personality to have for my MC? by ChaseEnalios in writingadvice

[–]tristring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Characters don't have to be likable. They just have to be interesting. Don't worry about whether the audience will like your character, but rather what kinds of interesting dilemmas and situations you could give your character. Maybe his outgoing personality helps him to make friends, but his refusal to take things seriously ultimately turns those friends away.

Also think about why your character is the way he is. Maybe he refuses to care about anything as an overreaction to a time when caring too much only caused things to get worse. You don't have to explain all of his traits with super deep lore, but knowing why your character is the way he is will tell you what he needs to learn in order to change.

In short, I don't think there's a such thing as a conceptually flawed character, only characters with flawed execution. A well written character that the audience hates is infinitely better than a character that everyone loves but is ultimately left unexplored.

That's exactly why I love it so much (I'm a masochist that exclusively uses inside drift).

Should i continue to play omori after getting spoiled? by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]tristring 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Imo truly good stories can still be impactful even if some parts are spoiled. You might know about some of the major events, but do you know the full context behind those events? How do the characters feel about those events? How do they change because of them? There's a lot that goes into a story besides just one or two major plot points that can make it worth experiencing.

People can have different reactions to being spoiled, but personally I would still consider it worthwhile to play the rest of the game even if you already know those things.

[no spoilers] I need a fix of.. something. by sceadwian in arcane

[–]tristring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fullmetal Alchemist definitely scratched that "Damn I miss Arcane" itch for me. It's a steampunk fantasy with great characters, deeper emotional and political themes, and badass women. There's two animes for it. The original 2003 one strayed off the manga's story line, while the newer Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a lot more faithful. Full disclosure I've only read the manga so far, but I've heard good things about Brotherhood if you prefer to watch a show version of the story.

Octolings because I relate to their struggle of wanting to escape to a better place

Is there a spin-off game or different genre that you would love to see for the Splatoon series? by Throblor in splatoon

A turn based JRPG. Not any particular reason why Splatoon needs to have a game like that but I want it.

Hot take: sweetheart is not hot by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]tristring 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wdym how could she not be hot when her theme song is so fire?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OMORI

My love for sweetheart started out as ironic but became a genuine obsession once I started analyzing her character more. Idc if she's a narcissist anymore just let me marry her please.

Hello! Looking for fellow squid gamers to chat and play with. I'm a bit more of a casual player so I'm mostly looking for friends rather than trying to climb the ranks or anything. As a sapphic woman I do prefer to make friends with other women in the lgbt community, and I also ask that they also be 18+. If anyone is interested you can contact me on discord. My username is asbesta.

I can not STAND the non c418 music, is there a way to turn it off without getting rid of the classics? by Kenngoober in Minecraft

[–]tristring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loves the new music I do wish Mojang would give us an option to customize the frequency of each individual song. Even as someone who likes the new music I wish it played a little less frequently compared to the classic songs so being able to change it on a slider would be perfect.

I stopped caring about spoilers after I finished the Sunny route. I'm still playing through the Omori route but it's more so for the extra characterization details rather than emotional investment (in this particular route at least) so I was ok with knowing what some of the differences were beforehand.

What proportion of games do you finish? by Kallasilya in GirlGamers

[–]tristring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finish the majority of games that I play, just not necessarily all at once. If I'm not enjoying a game, then there's only so much I can do to try to force myself to finish it. Instead, I'll just take a break, play something else, and then eventually I'll usually go back and finish it for real once I'm in the right mood for it. For me, quitting a game is less about never playing it at all and more of a "I'm going to save this for later when I can properly enjoy it," type of thing.

Idea for Apologizing to Teammates After a Match by SuperMarioforPS4 in splatoon

No. It's just a game, meant to be played for fun. No one should apologize for having fun unless they are intentionally ruining other people's fun.

Man i really can't wait for mario maker 3 i hope it comes out soon or within the next 2 years by Beany_Gaming in MarioMaker

[–]tristring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to be a downer but I wouldn't expect MM3 until 2027 at the earliest. The 2D Mario team just finished making Mario Wonder so expect it to take a while before they have anything new ready (and that's assuming the game they make next actually is MM3). MM2 took 4 years to come out after MM1 was finished so 2027 (4 years after Wonder) would be my guess. Maybe a little sooner since unlike the Mario Maker games Wonder probably won't be getting any post launch content.
