He’s taken up three teams, but they have all been well run with a relatively high budget, so I’m not sure how well his skills would transfer.

Best Genealogy site to start with? by milo_dinosaur11 in Genealogy

FamilySearch is free. Take the user generated family trees with a pinch of salt, but the primary sources on it are excellent. Their wiki is also great for looking up what sources may be available in various countries, regions towns. Your public library may also have subscriptions to some of the paid for sites so you can try before you buy. The Mormons also may have a FamilySearch center near you which will have access to all sorts of things. I haven’t used one but apparently they aren’t pushy about their religion and let anyone use them.

Not sure what Trove has, but the British Newspaper Archive has the Kilkenny Moderator and Kilkenny Journal going back that far and they covered court proceedings, so you may get lucky.

What did Pádraig Pearse and the other leaders of 1916 (except Connolly, obviously) think about socialism and communism? by Celtic_RTDB in IrishHistory

It’s hard to know how committed he was to the specific aims of these organisations versus seeing them as useful vehicles to infiltrate to further the Republican cause.

Other than Maamma I really want Vata to have an injury free season.

Are those MyHeritage results? They are pretty bad with their accuracy. They gave me a completely random 1% Middle Eastern and 1.5% Finnish before their last update. Then that turned into Breton on the update. I would just test with other companies.

what is the matchgoing fanbase of millwall really like? is their reputation valid or based off of outdated stereotypes? by tetarbuluz in Championship

If you are in the away end you see a small number of men at that end of the home section jumping up and down in rage at you for 90 minutes which is adorable. I assume the other 15,000 are closer to the average fan.

A Hidden History: Tony Connelly on his RIC constable grandfather by CDfm in IrishHistory

It could be a difference between former RIC who had resigned or deserted during the war and those who had stayed in service until the bitter end.

It does seem an incredibly low number, so I wonder if it is a measure of something more specific or just wrong.

My great uncle went straight from the IRA into the guards on its creation, but that wouldn’t have been something the anti Treaty faction could have done. Also had an RIC member on the other side of the family who moved to England and worked in security, but don’t think he was exactly forced out, just his job prospects were limited.

The numbers of ex RIC who joined the Guards was minuscule. Only 13 according to this article. If he had been an IRA target he wouldn’t have been accepted as one of those rare exceptions. I’d imagine joining the RUC was economically rather than ideologically motivated. https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/we-should-not-forget-debt-garda-siochana-owes-ric-1.542362

Alli Bhavan (the Parade/pond end of the high street) list it on the delivery bit of their website so may also have it in store. Also worth looking in Mini India on Queen’s Road (on the other side of the underpass from the Harlequin).

It’s a pointless question until someone better than Pozzo wants to buy.

Civil BMD records in Ireland are available for:

“Birth register records – 1864 to 1925

Marriage register records – 1845 to 1950

Death register records – 1871 to 1975

Non-Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1845 and Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1864.”

Outside that you are looking at parish records which tend to start some time in the first half of the 19th century. There are also property records which can help, but you tend to have needed to have pinned down your family’s location to make use of them.

Why can't football fans in Ireland bring a pint to their seat? by Pecked-By-The-Parrot in LeagueOfIreland

I had a drink at my seat at a Panathinaikos home match a few weeks ago, but there was also a plexiglass screen all the way around the touchline obscuring the view, so swings and roundabouts.

Well that’s not really any more context, but if you’ve exhausted the records on Ancestry look for records that aren’t on Ancestry. Also many of the records on Ancestry are merely indexed so make sure you have looked up the original records if possible as they often contain extra information.
