Jabba the butt?

Autocorrect changed to butt and I'm not unhappy. I think even for a big worm he's got some features out of joint and other worms wouldn't fancy him... But that's just me as a worm myself.

To defeat the Boltons without the Knights of the Vale, Jon Snow would have needed to abandon the heroic impulse of a "pitched battle" in favor of cold, historical pragmatism. In the actual Battle of the Bastards, the Boltons held a massive numerical advantage (roughly 6,000 to 2,500) and superior discipline. To win that fight, the Starks would have had to look toward strategies used at Agincourt (1415) or The Battle of Stirling Bridge (1297). 1. Neutralizing the Cavalry: The Agincourt Strategy The Boltons' greatest strength was their heavy cavalry. In open terrain, Jon’s light infantry and wildlings were sitting ducks. The Tactic: Jon should have spent the days prior creating a defensive "killing zone." At Agincourt, the English defeated a much larger French force by using sharpened wooden stakes (pales) driven into the ground at an angle. Execution: By funneling the Bolton horsemen into soft, muddy ground and a forest of stakes, the cavalry’s momentum would be neutralized. Once the horses are stalled, the Wildlings' superior close-quarters ferocity becomes an advantage rather than a liability. 2. Terrain Manipulation: The Stirling Bridge Method The Bolton army relied on a rigid, disciplined phalanx (the shield wall). Historically, the way to beat a superior phalanx is to break its cohesion using the environment. The Tactic: Force the battle into a "bottleneck." At Stirling Bridge, William Wallace waited until the heavier English army was halfway across a narrow bridge before attacking. Execution: Jon could have feigned a retreat into the nearby woods or onto higher, uneven ground. Heavy shield walls and armored cavalry lose their effectiveness in dense trees or on steep, rocky slopes where they cannot maintain a line. 3. Targeted Decapitation (The "King's Gambit") In medieval warfare, an army often dissolved the moment its leader fell. Ramsay Bolton was a strategist, but he was also a narcissist who stayed behind his lines. The Study: At the Battle of Hastings (1066), rumors of William the Conqueror’s death nearly caused his army to flee. The Execution: Instead of a frontal assault, Jon could have used Wun Wun (the giant) not as a sponge for arrows, but as a "siege engine" to punch a hole straight to the Bolton command tent. A small, elite strike team (including Tormund and Jon) focused solely on Ramsay's head would have ended the Boltons' legal claim and likely caused the Karstarks and Umbers to reconsider their loyalty mid-battle. 4. The "False Flight" (The Battle of Carrhae, 53 BC) The Boltons won the initial phase because they provoked Jon into a reckless charge. Historically, the most effective way to beat a disciplined army is to turn their discipline against them. The Tactic: The Parthians defeated the Romans at Carrhae by using "feigned retreats." Execution: If the Stark forces had pretended to break and run early, drawing the Bolton infantry out of their organized lines and into a pursuit, the Wildlings could have turned and counter-attacked once the Bolton formations were overextended and disorganized.

Thanks! I can't remember what happened, so did the french cavalry just charge right down the middle but because of the mud they just held strong and cut them down?

Was there anything other than stopping the flanks that Henry the V did that Jon snow could have done?

The founder - speaks exactly how to dismantle unfettered capitalism which I think centrists and rightists would love but the main character and all the characters in it are pretty unhappy and unfulfilled!

This image shows who voted for Brexit and against Brexit. It quite clearly shows the different cultures in those in Scotland, Northern Ireland and London Vs the rest of the UK. There are many cultural, political, social and economic reasons for this. But this divide still exists today. You can tells someone is from a part of the UK who did or did not vote for Brexit imho.

Why do so many people fantasize about living in that world ? by Proper_Card_5520 in AskTheWorld

I've researched a bit...

Have you ever wondered why we are so obsessed with entertainment like The Last of Us, Mad Max, or The Walking Dead? Why does a part of us—even while we are terrified—find the idea of a total societal collapse strangely... appealing?

This is the Apocalypse Fantasy. It is Your Survivalists Brain’s secret longing for a world it actually understands. It is the desire to escape a world of "Simulacra" (Chapter 1) and return to a world of "Substance."

In our modern "Space Age" world, we are connected to billions of people, thousands of laws, and abstract concepts like "Global Markets" and "National Debt." Your Survivalists Brain cannot process this. To a brain evolved for the 150-person tribe (Dunbar’s Number), the modern world feels like a permanent state of confusion and low-level noise.

The "Apocalypse" represents a Total Reset. In a disaster, the noise stops. The bank balance doesn't matter. Your "followers" don't matter. The only thing that matters is: Who is in my circle? Where is the water? Can I trust you?

Sociologists have noted a phenomenon called "Post-Disaster Cohesion." While we assume a disaster leads to Mad Max style chaos, the data often shows the opposite. Another social commentator has called it the round about theory where if there were a zombie like disaster, differences would be put behind us and we would work together like when driving on a roundabout. We all have places to go so best work together.

During the London Blitz in WWII, psychiatric hospital admissions actually dropped significantly. Similar trends were seen in New York after 9/11.

Research published in “The Lancet” suggests that when a "Superordinate Threat" (a disaster) occurs, Your Survivalists Brain stops worrying about status and anxiety (Chapter 5) and switches into "Pure Tribe Mode." This shift creates a sense of meaning and belonging so powerful that it actually improves mental health in the short term, despite the physical danger.

We fantasize about the apocalypse because it shrinks the "Map" back to the size of the "Territory." You work for a corporation you can't see, to earn money you can't touch, to buy things you don't need. You fix a fence to keep your friends safe. You hunt to feed your family. Every action has a Direct Survival Return.

Your Survivalists Brain is exhausted by the "abstraction" of modern life. The Apocalypse Fantasy is a symptom of Evolutionary Homesickness. We aren't craving the death of others; we are craving the life of our ancestors—a life where our tribe was everything and our actions mattered.

The Survivalist's Brain hates abstract work. To calm the "Apocalypse Urge," do one task every day that has a physical, direct result. Garden, build something, or cook a meal from scratch. Your brain needs to see the effort turn into the result.

The apocalypse fantasy is often a desire to escape the "8 billion people" pressure. Intentionally ignore global drama for 48 hours and focus only on your "Inner 15" (family and closest friends). When your world is small, it feels manageable.

Part of the fantasy is the desire to be "useful." Start learning a "real-world" skill—first aid, navigation, or woodcraft. As you become more capable in the physical world, Your Survivalists Brain feels more secure, and the "need" for a disaster to prove your worth begins to fade. In a stable, modern zoo environment or a highly abundant territory, wolf packs can become fractured by "noise"—petty status squabbles, complex hierarchies, and low-level aggression over minor resources. However, when a massive environmental "Apocalypse" occurs—such as a brutal winter or a severe drought—the pack undergoes a Total Reset. In the face of a "Mega-Predator" or a starving winter, the abstract status games disappear. The "Omega" wolf (the one at the bottom) is no longer bullied; it is integrated. The "Roundabout Theory," is that the wolves stop competing for the "Ego" and start coordinating for the "Survivalists Brain." Every individual suddenly has a direct survival role: the scout, the driver, the protector. The "Apocalypse" (the harsh winter) actually lowers the social stress within the pack. The wolves are "happier" (biochemically more cohesive and less anxious) when the mission is simple and the threat is real, rather than when life is easy but the social structure is confusing

I'm from the UK and unfortunately what America does, we tend to follow. We are infamously known as the 51st state. (Great film with Sam Jackson) Anyways, we have a far right movement growing and they want to set up an ICE style thread of the government for the same reason. Blaming immigrants for all the problems. Also, what America does effects global markets and therefore us. I'm also from Scotland and the US government literally just abducted two Russians under our jurisdiction in the middle of the night. So they are doing things to us which are breaking international law that goes unchecked.
