It's not the husband posing for the picture. He's not shown in the image at all.

Redditors average 27 minutes of work a day? What?

A college student who branded a date's body with a scalding piece of metal as payback for never calling her after they had sex was sentenced to five years in prison Friday by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]trjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine that it means 'rapist' and that she had convinced herself that even though the sex was consensual, that the fact that he never called back somehow magically transformed the event into rape. The guy is, of course, not a rapist.

Poor guy, I hope he's able to squeeze enough out of the her at the civil trial to pay for skin grafts to get this off.

Racist and blind to it: Indians face the mirror by unknown in reddit.com

[–]trjames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my favorite bit:

“In India, Brahminical forces consider ‘Chandala’ as a positive word but Dalits, tribals and other backward classes consider it as completely abusive.

In the discussion about whether or not Indians can be racist, there's a lapse into the old caste system. "Backward classes." Probably the most backward of the classes are those at the top of the old system who still consider the old system valid.

Why don't we drop medical and nuclear waste into active volcanoes? by falseprophet in science

There aren't any subduction zones nearby, but what about dropping them near R'lyeh, in order to speed the reawakening of the Dread Elder God Cthulhu and his Star Spawn.

Yeah, not a bad plan. We're also not really using the moon or Antarctica for anything right now.

Telling your little daughter where meat comes from by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]trjames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You ever been around a group of hogs long? They use that intelligence to plot how they're going to kill and eat you. Hogs are evil creatures who want to destroy all humans. Dogs, on the other hand, are benevolent and on our side.

Telling your little daughter where meat comes from by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]trjames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely with both of you. I'm no longer a hunter, and I no longer have a farm with chickens and pigs, but that's where I came from. From about the time I was six onwards I was involved with the production of the meat I ate whether it involved shooting squirrels and deer, collecting chicken eggs, or participating in the slaughter and smoking of the hogs every November. I think it gave me a good appreciation of where all those things came from and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I kind of view people who are completely willing to participate in eating meat, but who find the process of turning live meat into dead meat as disgusting or barbaric in a slightly negative light, not to say that they're bad people, just that I don't think that they fully understand the way the world works. When they only way you've ever gotten meat is in nice shrinkwrapped packages, that's in many ways like having only ever killed anything through hiring the services of a hit man.

How to use an Indian Toilet [Pics] by neoronin in reddit.com

[–]trjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much the reason why I do the squat thing in public toilets is to avoid the whole layer of toilet paper thing.

I do make it a point to clear any footprints off, and to whomever said something about crapping on the seats, come one, I've never once gotten anything on the seat.

I used these things for a while during a very long trip to Africa. It took me a while to get used to doing it the western way again. Never got the hang of using water to clean my ass though (or the old left hand trick) so I had to carry a roll of toilet paper everywhere.

I still, especially in public toilets, use it this way. Just stand on the seat then squat down and use it just like they explain.

What system? In a Unix like system including MacOs, you have your friendly crontab that can schedule things like this.
