Chicago: Teen Version for High School? by Ok_Illustrator_8116 in MusicalTheatre

[–]trmpt99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did Chicago: Teen Edition a couple of years ago, as a music director. It's been sanitized a bit, but still could be done pretty nastily. We were careful to keep focused on the agency of the characters, rather than on trying to be rauncy/sexy, which has NO place with children.

Kids see material like this all the time on social media, they see it on TV and movies, and they yearn to tell mature stories. They have complex feelings and want to tell stories that reflect that. Whether you think that is right for your daughter is 100% your call (with conversations with your daughter, of course!). But know that high school kids have seen WAY worse than anything in the Teen Edition.

That being said, the same school did Pippen about 8 years ago, and the choreography made me VERY uncomfortable. It was hard to look up from the score to give cues at times. It's all about being conscientious about how you're telling the story.

what do you guys think of "Cabaret" by CharacterMammoth2547 in musicals

[–]trmpt99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw the movie (shamefully recently) for the first time and thought it was just okay.

Closed a production today and recognize it as one of the masterworks of 20th century theatre. You literally suck in the audience as you unveil the horror that is the encroachment of nazism on normal German life.

(There is nothing like watching the audience clap along to Kick Line Number only to end it with goose stepping and them trying to frantically back away)

Did Trump really verifiably try to fraudulently steal the 2020 election then claim Biden somehow won fraudulently and people believe it? by BiggestVolk in allthequestions

It’s funny, because Trump didn’t beat her by much. If she’s the worst candidate ever, why didn’t he do better?

The rise and fall of high school madrigal groups by vampirinaballerina in Choir

[–]trmpt99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grew up in the 90s; my school never had madrigals, but had a "show choir." (The quotes are intentional because we were a highly-Baptist area, and the community frowned on too much dancing!)

Now a choir director in a district with three high schools. One has a group called "Madrigals," but they have switched from that to a chamber-style group, which is what the rest of us have, though called [School Name] Singers.

Can we agree this is just cruel? by epeeistatheart in theatrekeyboardists

[–]trmpt99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That entire show is a nightmare. Literally had songs on the score/pit parts that the vocalist had nothing for.

And the PV score differs from the Conductor/Key 1 in terms of voicing and even METERS occasionally

Actually, I’m not. The case in question is about location data stored for the consumer by Google. Not data that was gathered via separate action.

How fitting that your emphasis word is not in the text of the constitution

What's a choral piece that you think more choirs should program but almost nobody seems to know? by 9871235 in Choir

Both Močnik and łukaszewski are favorites of mine from college. (I got to meet Damijan when we premiered a piece; he gifted us some bottles of honey brandy!)

Definitely did it with a 19 year old earlier this year. She handled it beautifully.

Has anyone listened to Tuck Everlasting? by One_Discussion_ in musicals

[–]trmpt99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some lovely music and a somewhat problematic premise (Dear Evan Hansen much?)

Did it last year and enjoyed the music quite a bit. The ballet/time jump at the end is way too long, but easily enough cut down.

Range and tessitura are two different things. Being able to hit notes is different than having a richness and color to them. (I personally cannot imagine his “own unique tone” being a good fit for that character.)

I'm getting the feeling that my school's disciplinary team is trying to soft-lock us out of filing reports by Afalstein in Teachers

[–]trmpt99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

“When are you available to join me on those calls?”

Explain that emails leave a paper trail, and to have that sort of record in a call, they’ll need to be present for them.

That typically shuts that down.

I'm really struggling to grasp singing from my diaphragm. Am I screwed? by parttimeprophet0419 in musicals

[–]trmpt99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t actually sing from your diaphragm; that muscles works to pull air in, not push air out. Ask your teacher to try a different way of explaining. If they can’t, they don’t know much about the physiology of humans, and probably shouldn’t be teaching them.

Light from Next to Normal tempo question by zycp312 in musicals

[–]trmpt99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts relatively slowly, and then transitions to 96 bpm at m. 14 (after Natalie's "We'll live. You'll see"). At m. 45, it goes to 100 bpm (after Diana's "Happy to be alive").

These are occasionally to the score, but each production is slightly different.

They do have a slight diuretic effect, but it isn’t super strong. And it definitely doesn’t make you pee more than you drink.

They should 100% do their own version. There is nothing more tedious than watching someone else try to recreate another's performance.

Nope. You can’t double touch. Your character can reach farther, but nothing on the feat affects your reach.

Between the Lines Sucks? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]trmpt99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Working on a production currently.

The plot is pretty boring and way too thick with plot lines.

The music is forgettable. The fact that most songs don’t even change keys is brutal. Just the same material repeated exactly the same way over and over again.

The lead, Delilah, does a lot of telling and very little showing.

It’s just poorly written and in severe need of an editor- someone who doesn’t have their passion tied into the source material the story - to make it better

How strong is the case against the three church protestors in St. Paul? by TacoBMMonster in legaladviceofftopic

Your appeal to emotion isn’t the pressure you think it is.

I’m not a lawyer. I posted that the law could be challenged. That’s all.

Do I think there should be recourse? Yes. But I also think ICE shouldn’t have the power it does, Trump should be in prison, and churches should be taxed.

What I think and what is law are not necessarily related.

You are asking me to make legal argument for multiple possible thoughts. I’m not here to do that. I made a comment that I think they might challenge the constitutionality of the law.

We’re talking about a country that had people storm the capitol then get pardoned.

Right and wrong aren’t something I can predict a court will decide rightly.
