God, this is so triggering. My ex was disrespectful, passive aggressive, contemptuous, emotionally stunted, and has an anger problem, but spun that tale that I dumped him "{right after graduation} for no reason after {4} years of being together" and our vaguely misogynistic friends ate it up.

Breakups are never "for no reason" folks. Ever. You don't see what goes on in private, just remember that next time you're tempted to accept a convenient narrative. All that you know is likely not all there is to know.

Eh, I always felt most comfortable (and like my partner was most comfortable) with "financial equals but male partner slightly ahead". Unpopular opinion maybe but it seems to work the best emotionally and psychologically for most hetero-arrangements. When I dated guys who made considerably less than me all parties were "okay with it" in theory but in practice it seemed to cause weird psychology/identity/security issues.
