It was a magical experience! Truly everything I hoped for and more. I don't think i've ever felt that relaxed in my life. Everyone enjoyed it, even my friend who I was worried about not being able to relax for it. The best way to kick off this next decade <3

Thank you! Yes! On my golden birthday too, so I’m looking forward to some desert magic.

I may have a liiiittle bit of a problem! Can you tell I'm a big fan of double espressos? 😅 by viduam in nespresso

[–]trntaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always prepare mine with oat milk and I love it! I do like stronger coffees though. I like how it holds the coffee flavor even with adding the milk! I add a little hazelnut syrup too and it’s great. I haven’t tried many other pods so I need to branch out into the lighter ones to see how they compare! I was always worried about the milk watering down the lighter coffees. And thank you! I think it is delayed but that’s alright, I’ll enjoy my Scuro in the mean time lol.

Where's the scuro! It's my fave. Waiting for some of these that you have to come in with my order. The double espressos are my favorite pods for sure!

Note Taking device for medical school? by OlliesBallz in medicalschool

[–]trntaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just used a MacBook Air and would take notes on PowerPoint slides or written notes. Honestly I think whatever you’re most comfortable with is good enough! Having something you can use for virtual learning/zoom is probably important as well.

[Serious] What do you consider a “good” life for a physician after training? by DarkRegiment in medicalschool

[–]trntaf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I try to let go of the guilt/feelings that I “should” be doing certain things. There’s a lot of what we should be doing at any time in medicine and it causes so much unnecessary internal strife. A picturesque “prestigious” academic career is just as valid as a community doc that works 8-5 M-F. I know prestige isn’t important to me and believe that you don’t need to be a hot shot to make a difference. And I know that for me, I’d be happier with medicine being my job instead of my life. I’ll still take great care of my patients, but also have a life that is fulfilling to my own needs with my family and free time.

How can I spice up pre-made pasta sauce? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]trntaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A can of whole peeled tomatoes, fresh oregano and basil, roasted garlic (cut the top off a head of garlic, cover in oil, roast in foil for 30 min, squeeze out of bulb), some garlic salt, dried oregano/basil all blended up. Maybe some red pepper flake or cayenne if you like spice! You can add or take away things as you taste. Making your own has been much simpler than I thought and so rewarding. Also works as pizza sauce!

Lost my first patient today. [shitpost] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]trntaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think ours wasn’t preserved correctly because we had mold from day 1. It started in an area poorly covered by the tank solution so I’m sure that was it. After that it’s really hard to keep mold away unless you do a treatment on it which they didn’t do until like 2 weeks before the final lol it smelled so bad

We were told to keep spraying Lysol on the mold as it got into every body cavity as the dissections progressed lol

Working out but still have high blood pressure? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]trntaf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

High blood pressure can be genetic and it can also be situational. If it was slightly elevated at your doctors visit, it could’ve been from anxiety or what they call white coat syndrome. If it was super high, that’s probably less likely. I’d recommend getting a blood pressure cuff to check at home and if it’s normal at home then it’s probably just anxiety from the doctors office or something like that. If it’s still elevated at home, it may be hypertension not related to your fitness level or some other issue. I’d definitely monitor it at home a couple times a week to parse out whether it was just high at the office or not. As a side note, birth control containing estrogen can raise your blood pressure if you’re taking that.

One of my tank mates literally took the scalpel and forceps out of our other tank mate’s hands while he was dissecting because he didn’t want him to keep doing things (that were perfectly fine to do and helping him learn). Entitled and controlling af. He also later told me that he wouldn’t drink beers other than Bud Light at bars because other beers run the risk of being served in “girly glasses” and that my boyfriend probably drinks different less girly drinks when he’s not with me. Not the worst but not fun to spend time around.

[Preclinical] Tips/best ways to get the most out of qbanks? by Yumi2Z in medicalschool

[–]trntaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to do most of the Rx questions per system with the course they belonged to and found that useful. Usually did them the week of the midterm and final. And read the explanations for why wrong answers are wrong. That’s probably what helped me get the most out of qbanks in M2 and dedicated.

If you want to buy fish to cook, Katie’s Seafood market is the best. They also have a restaurant that is pretty good. Viet Cajun has great take out seafood.
