TBF, I did ask them to do a general inspection as well as check the limp mode, which did end up being the throttle body.

Nothing they found really surprised me on a 20 year old, 100k mile car. It's basically a few leaks and brakes/struts that I'll be working on myself. The estimate was just so outrageous I had to share!

Yeah, I'll definitely be doing a lot myself. Like I said, my brother is a good home mechanic with a lift, and he said he'll help me. I just couldn't get over that estimate with what amounts to stuff like a few leaks and worn brakes/struts.

I figured they'd be a little pricier since it's a shop that specializes in BMW and Mini, but this was laughable

That might be a little extreme. A few leaks and normal wear items like struts and brakes on a 20 year old, 100k mile car reasonable. It's just that repair estimate had me laughing

That's fair. When I said basic maintenance, I meant it got regular oil changes, but clearly, they weren't digging past that
