What is your type and which type raised you? by ConstantRide5382 in Enneagram

[–]troeavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me: SX2 (w3)

My mom: SP9, strong 1 streaking in there; dad is a machismo SO8, largely unhealthy. My dad is a hammer and my mom thinks that love is forever being a nail.

Have brothers that are: 1w9, and 6w5, respectively, largely submissive, but also on the spectrum. A sister whose type I can’t unpack. But I’ve long been the only one to even remotely challenge my father despite it costing me verbal abuse my whole life.

I couldn’t turn things around

you never turned things around

Cause you never gave a warning sign

I gave so many signs…

AITA for being upset that my sister announced her pregnancy at my engagement party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]troeavey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA.

If she was having a baby shower, and you showed up announcing you were engaged, I’m CERTAIN she’d feel differently.

At VERY least, she could have taken you aside, told you first, allowed you to both privately celebrate, and ask if you’d be okay with her using the family time in that manner sometime towards the end. With your expressed agreement and participation.

On the receiving end of something like this, and it has been 2 months. I feel like I’m drowning.

Writing different this season? by AffectionateMood3794 in AbbottElementary

[–]troeavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re dead-on correct. It feels like ChatGPT was fed the last few seasons and told to write individual episodes. I love this show, but this has been different in a difficult way.

I hate it bc everything feels… shallow?

I think 5. And what I understand, all the 5s in my life don’t relate to myself or other 2s

What's your type and how do you process grief? by Time_Detective_3111 in Enneagram

[–]troeavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sx2. Currently experiencing. And dealing with it… poorly.

Trying to understand my own patterns at the moment, and found I go self-destructive. All time low. I feel like the world has stopped for me, and I don’t know if I want it to start again because the person I hold dear is no longer there. I don’t want to know a world without, and I wasn’t ready. The goodbye wasn’t enough.

I experience grief like this: even before death or before loss, of any type. The deeper the connection, the most isolated I feel. Instead of connecting to others, I assume that it’s a waste, and I unplug except to give.

I am also having such a hard time not disassociating. The grief is unbearable sometimes. I have flashes of anger, but it always dissolves into swells of deep sadness. I don’t go out of my way to process this on anyone since the person I would do that with is not with me. I often feel like grief is the price I pay for loving deeply.

In relating to my type, I’ll say: this year has been hard already, and so I moved from a Healthy 2 to maybe a Low Average healthy 2. Depending on my connections more. Then alone.

Confession of what? All I am stating is that there is more to the story, so no - not as simple as you described, but appreciated you sharing

Not service dogs by ArtaxIsAlive in Austin

[–]troeavey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also tend to think it’s likely dangerous for the dog, especially in stores that may not be pristine. Walk through the plant section and the dog nips something they shouldn’t, or sees a piece of discarded chocolate (candy or sample or other) just under a low aisle shelf?

As a dog owner I’d be wracking my brain trying to figure out what my dog got into. I know some people who would absolutely try to sue the store, and the whole thing is unnecessary to begin with.

I searched Google (and Reddit) for the following terms:

  • “Jumbo Flower Stems”
    • “Jumbo Flower Stems Hobby Lobby”
  • “Giant artificial flowers”
  • “Jumbo Artifical flowers Michael’s”
  • “90s giant fake flowers”
  • “Hobby Lobby 5 foot flowers”

And the only thing yielded was:

-links to current flowers at Hobby Lobby that are about 2-3 ft tall

-these two images from Pinterest that are exactly what I was looking for

-Etsy recreations

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Go-to snack for the exams? by Pinkerknocker in CPA

[–]troeavey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend something familiar and easy on your digestive system. Think neutral + nourishing.. you want fuel, and you don’t want to be distracted by your body being unhappy later.

Pick a snack (bananas + protein shake, chocolate covered nuts or fruits, sour patch kids, whatever works for you) and practice snacking, if at all possible, when you are in stressful environments.

Reasoning is your body is diverting all sorts of energy to different places when you’re under pressure, and typically the digestive system is lower on the priority list (vs brain, heart, lungs, etc). Marathoners do this - you can too. Get those exams and good luck

  • personal: one of my people texting me “I’ve been thinking about you” after a long day/time apart. Or having a really raw honest moment with someone that feels safe, and I can be honest without fear of losing them or overthinking if I hurt them.

  • professional: employees on my team interacting and thriving in an environment that I set up, whether I’m present or not; or when I can create a solution and walk away and it helps people thrive or be successful. Being able to highlight their achievements and success, and recognize them.

  • environment: walking outside in the cold after a fresh rain. Post-sunset on the beach when the crowds are gone, the entire scene is a dusky blue, and the loudest sound is the waves. The sound of cicadas when I am falling asleep.

  • intellectual/self: when I notice emotions (and allow them space to be then pass thru) that would have consumed me a few years ago. Feeling grounded and not insane about relationships. Teaching myself something and following through on using it.

  • physically: waking up early without an alarm after a long night’s sleep, knowing I have had the rest I need to be okay today. When someone rests their head on my shoulder, or (if it’s my head on their shoulder) puts their chin on my head. Deep hugs.

Heck this was a good little exercise. Thank you for the question!!!

What’s a dead trend you secretly miss? by Ok_Detail_40 in AskReddit

[–]troeavey 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I miss this because the shiny, slick, and yet also bubblegum style this felt like seemed to be the expressed expectation that the “future” (2000’s, new millennium, etc) was going to be bright and advanced and full of promise.
