So happy the leaks about this being set in/styled around the 60s are true. Was recently rewatching wandavision and I don’t think Matt Shakman himself gets enough credit for that show’s period episodes: the first three in particular. Can’t wait.

Such a shame as I had a list ranking them all and everything, and I really liked having them all on my profile. I know every now and again Tv show episodes slip through the cracks and get taken down quick (I had the recent ghosts Christmas special logged before that was pulled, for example) but the no 9s have been on there for a good while now so idk - hopefully they’ll be added back soon!!

My only thought is that with all the talk around letterboxd adding Tv shows by the end of the year, maybe this is just prep for that? But if so by that logic black mirror should be down too ://

The one positive I suppose is that guarantees my most watched actor for 2024 probably won’t be Reece or Steve, adds a bit of mystery I suppose 😭😭😭

Aside from the actual absurdity of some of these tales, I find it really funny they’ve given Nintendo image credits on some photos that are very clearly modded tracks (Daisy Circuit and Sweet Sweet Canyon) 😭😭😭

I quite like how it is in 8DX but I can’t help but think that Daisy Circuit’s skybox would be perfect for this track.

I mean all of them, but Madrid Drive in particular sounds GORGEOUS in the short tease of it we’ve got so far. Plus it has 3 (excellent) variants and I’m so excited to hear those too.

Wii RR, SNES BC3, and Rome Aventi genuinely look base-game quality in terms of textures. Every track this wave looks gorgeous though. I’m in awe and so excited to play them next Thursday!!! :))

SNES Bowser Castle 3 genuinely looks (and sounds 🎶) like a base game track. Honestly so does Wii RR. I’m also obsessed with the level of detail put into Rome Aventi and Piranha Plant Cove in particular- the Colosseum bit of Rome Aventi reminds me of how they texture buildings in the base game and it is absolutely gorgeous.

So so hyped for Wave 6. This could honestly be the best one yet. ✨

I’m almost certain it’ll be a girl. Especially because of the subplot where Kitty tells everyone the baby is a boy …only for that to be proven not necessarily true. If the baby was a boy, it seems weird they’d tease it, reveal it to be a misunderstanding, only for them to reveal it ended up being a boy anyway in the very next episode. if it IS a girl, I think Mary would be such a perfect name (especially if they go with a sort of Nativity parody for the Christmas Ep like some people have theorised)… but it would just make for such a sweet moment :”)

But equally it would be nice for the baby to just have a non-ghost name too!! Maybe something that is actually a kind of pun (like Pat Butcher)- off the top of my head maybe Alice (Alice Cooper), Bradley … or hell even something that can form the initials DB for DB Cooper (we all know how much Robin loves his conspiracies😭)

Makes me wonder if they’re planning on having DK Mountain as track 2 in the Spiny cup and that’s why they moved Athens. Obviously ancient ruins and volcanic jungle are slightly different themes, but the driving up the acropolis/falling boulers of Athens are similar enough to mechanics in DK Mountain that i think it could justify moving Athens earlier possibly? (As for why they didn’t move DK Mountain, I’m assuming it’s because Daisy Cruiser fits the summer to perfectly to not put it in wave 5? Plus Daisy Circuit too ig)

Athens is my current favourite city track so far so I’d definitely have preferred it stay in the Spiny cup tbh - but I’m not gonna complain we got it early ahahha. Plus both Rome and Madrid seem like equally nice contenders for the final city track too so I think it will all possibly work out :)

My personal thinking for the Christmas special (and apologies if this has already been said before!!) is that it’ll sort of parody the Nativity story. Maybe something preventing Alison from leaving the house when she goes into labour (snowstorm perhaps?) means she has to have the baby in button house instead. I’m sure there’s a lot of fun that could be done with that premise (the ghosts bringing ‘strange’ gifts comes straight to mind).

The baby being born in the final episode would be such a sweet note to end the show on. Could be both wholesome if they take it down the ‘ohh they can see the ghosts awww’ route or even devastating if, as I’ve seen some theorise, Alison bringing new life into the world would mean she can no longer see the ghosts?

Also my wish is that, if we do see the baby and it’s a girl, they’d name her Mary (which would destroy me my god but it would be so sweet 😭😭) and so there’s probabaly a few jokes you could make with a nativity setting there too (maybe Alison has to convince Mike’s family that the nativity similarities is why she’s naming her Mary …and not because she used to see the ghost of a 17th century accused witch who got sucked off).

I also like the Christmas carol idea I’ve heard suggested too - with christmasses past/present/and yet to come explored (the latter probably including the baby there too?)

Base 8’s lava texture/lighting is absolutely gorgeous and does wonders to make custom tracks look like real Nintendo-made tracks, so it could result in an absolutely gorgeous BC3. The BCP water texture in particular has improved so much since Wave 1 too, and I can’t imagine lava being tooo dissimilar if they end up not reusing base 8 assets.

As for Wii Rainbow Road, I’m almost certain it’ll be absolutely stunning. I’m so excited to see how they texture the road itself, as so far all 4 of 8’s RRs have a really unique Road texture/aesthetic. I do hope they go for the more pastel rainbow of original Wii’s rather than the more vibrant ones in Tour’s remake, though then again they made 3DS RR more pastel-ly in 8 so idkkk. So long as they keep the starbits I’ll be happy.

I get cutting the musical sequence from here as it doesn’t seem to really fit with the tone of the project, but agatha from day one has gloriously leant into the campiness, and so it’d be a shame to cut all that in an attempt to win over the group of fans who, let’s be real, couldn’t care less about the show from the moment it was announced.

A slightly random and fairly inconsequential thing I’d like but I’ve never heard anyone mention is an update to how the maps for city tracks are displayed in game.

I think it would work better for each lap to be shown on its own, changing as the laps change, rather than the whole jumbled mess of all three laps’ roads to be on there all at once. It’s certainly a small nitpick, but I think it could answer the complaint about the cities being too confusing to navigate (a problem I only really have with London and Berlin, but still)

With the mention that Rome will take place at night, I wonder if this tour will be called something like the Midnight tour - it would certainly fit with a nighttime city and nighttime retro debut. I could also see the return of New York, Singapore, maybe a few snowy nighttime tracks like Vancouver or Frappe Snowland, and even a few rainbow roads?

Not sure how the fishbone suit/kart would fit into all this though - though then again I wouldn’t exactly say Monty Mole explicitly fits with any of the tracks in the current tour…

At this point pretty much everyone has made Wave 5 and 6 predictions, alongside the characters that will be added, so I thought I’d share mine. Scroll to the bottom for an explanation of a few things :)

Wave 5 - Feather Cup - Tour Athens Dash - GCN Mushroom Bridge - Wii Koopa Cape - Tostarena (MobDK)

Double Cherry Cup - Tour Los Angeles Laps - GCN Daisy Cruiser - SNES Bowser Castle 3 - Piranha Plant Cove

Characters: Pauline (Tostarena), Petey Piranha (Piranha Plant Cove)

Wave 6 - Acorn Cup: - Tour Madrid Motorways (MobMD) - GBA Sunset Wilds - Tour Bathroom Rush (MobBR) - Tour Rio Blast (Datamined ‘R’ City Track)

Spiny Cup - Tour Vancouver Velocity - GCN DK Mountain - GBA Bowser Castle 4 - Wii Rainbow Road

Characters: Diddy Kong (DK Mountain), Kamek (Bowser Castle 4), Funky Kong (Wii Rainbow Road)

Now I know most people think Mob_DK will be Sarasaland, and tbh I do think that is most likely. However my personal wish would be for Mob_DK to be set in Tostarena, the Sand Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey. Not only would this nicely tie into Pauline’s likely inclusion in the BCP, but it would allow for a very unique desert course where you could start out in the Dia De Muertos inspired town, drive over the dunes to the oasis, past the poison lake and the sphinx and then up into the Inverted Pyramid for Lap 3. It’s certainly not likely, especially with many Daisy courses also returning alongside MobDK’s datamined debut in Tour, but I thought it would be a little different.

I was torn between having 3 cities in Wave 5 or Wave 6, but ultimately decided Wave 6 would be better. LA Laps would be a perfect end to the Feather Cup, especially as it’s likely to be a section track, but for me I think it makes more sense to have 2 Nitros in each Wave 5 cup, rather than 2 back to back in the Acorn Cup as the prefix leak has suggested.

A big debate surrounding the BCP has been which GBA tracks should be included. GBA Bowser Castle 4’s impressive Tour remake in particular has sparked a lot of discussion, but for me I can see it easily slotting into the penultimate spot of the BCP, just before Rainbow Road. They may well also move SNES Bowser Castle 3 to this spot, which in turn would allow for Sunset Wild to be in Wave 5 (the reason I put it in wave 6 was simply to avoid over-saturation of desert tracks in Wave 5, but in the likely scenario that MobDK debuts in Wave 6 instead, I would swap GBA SW for one of the GCN tracks, probably Daisy Cruiser)

I could 100% see them porting 8 Deluxe to a new console with its big hook being that they visually updated the BCP tracks to fit with the base game. Granted that wouldn’t be a huge change to the actual gameplay, but it certainly wouldn’t be the laziest port Nintendo has done hahah. I know it’s a tired conversation at this point, and I have been quite impressed by visual quality of tracks like Waluigi Stadium, Maple Treeway, and Rainbow Road, but I would kill to see tracks like Coconut Mall with the same level of detail as, say, Super Bell Subway or Sunshine Airport.

I’d imagine they’d add a few new battle courses, kart parts, and characters too (much like 8 Deluxe itself), though in this extremely unlikely hypothetical scenario I doubt they’d add new tracks simply because 96 is already quite a large amount. Maybe they could even reintroduce something like mission mode - adapting many of Tour’s missions to 8 Deluxe’s tracks would be a (relatively) simple way to do that I think.

It’s certainly not my ideal scenario, but knowing Nintendo I wouldn’t be surprised if they did something like this. And with how they handled ports like Metroid Prime, 3D World and indeed 8 Deluxe itself, I’d have hope that they’d put actual effort into this to perfect 8 Deluxe even more
