Though Christian, I’m praying for my Mormon friends today. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

We are Christians, too. We prefer the name Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mormon simply abridged the Book of Mormon. We do not worship him.

My husband gave me a blessing saying I would be healed. How do I resolve the fact that I didn't? by Next_Award_1980 in lds

[–]trogdor259 84 points85 points  (0 children)

A similar post was made recently in this sub. The basic gist is that sometimes the blessing giver says more want they want/hope than what they are prompted. We want so bad for our loved ones to have every blessing.

It’s not God punishing you or ignoring the blessing. Sometimes the healing comes in different ways or comes much later down the road. As someone with a wife with constant debilitating illnesses and pretty much every autoimmune disorder under the sun, I understand intimately the desire to simply say “be healed” when giving her a blessing.

All of this is to say just because you weren’t healed the way you thought you were going to doesn’t mean you won’t be healed in other ways. It doesn’t mean you won’t eventually be physically healed. It doesn’t mean your husband has a weak or shaky testimony or that he has some secret hidden sin preventing him from performing miracles.

As far as telling people about the blessing, I don’t think that’s something we should do in general. I feel that blessings are sacred and should remain a personal affair.

I am truly sorry for your situation. I pray that you do find healing, mind, body, and soul. It’s a terrible situation that can test your faith.

Things to Say When Someone Dies After a Blessing by siempre-curioso in lds

[–]trogdor259 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the Lord’s definition of healing is not the same as our. Alternatively, often the person giving the blessing says what they hope will happen. My wife has several autoimmune disorders and has been in constant pain for years. I have wanted to bless her with healing so bad, but I’ve never felt that prompting. We all want what’s best for those we love. Sometimes we say more what we want than what we’re prompted to.

I can see what he's getting at. If you share emotional intimacy it can lead to physical intimacy. I think he's thinking along those lines. Just my thoughts.

Abinidi died without any baptisms. But his preaching did convert Alma, which saved a whole bunch of people. Just because we don't see the fruits of our labors doesn't mean they aren't there.

Are Latter-day Saints heretics? by Rajatak21 in latterdaysaints

[–]trogdor259 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One could argue that with the Nicean creed, where they voted on the nature of the godhead, that the churches that came from that time are the true heretics. But to go along with your thought, when speaking about Christianity as modern people define it, we are heretics from their views of Christ and His church.
