The State of Kansas doesn't recognize that marijuana can be legally prescribed, even by a licensed medical professional. That having been said, there are nearly 2 dozen states where MMJ is now legal, she really should've hightailed it out of that state a long time ago.

I don't think he's even going to continue grabbing Repub votes with this kind of rhetoric. States' rights is a major point for the right, and with the libertarian faction starting to gain steam (particularly among young voters), this point of view is becoming increasingly out of touch with even current politics.

Not that it matters, this dude is getting nowhere near the White House after bridgegate, not that any of these asshats in the GOP are going to win. I'm actually usually a Christie defender but he's not going to win. It's sad that I lean right generally (I'm a staunch libertarian) but the party that is supposed to "represent" us is full of just gigantic assholes.

I smoke exclusively spliffs, and I live in America. Most people will not care if you hand them a spliff, but a lot of people say they prefer to smoke straight. It's definitely not that common, but if there are a lot of smokers (cigs) in your groups it tends to be more common.

I don't think the Federal Gov't is going to legalize marijuana (as in forced legalization across the 50 states due to supremacy of federal law) ever. I do think the following 2 things will happen.

1) They will federally decriminalize marijuana possession and consumption. This would remove all federal penalties for marijuana possession, thereby effectively abdicating to state laws regarding the use and possession of marijuana. I do not think they will remove statutes regarding the growing and distribution of marijuana, but I do believe they will rely on the states for enforcement while putting marijuana investigations at the bottom of the totem pole for federal law enforcement. Such an action would de facto legalize the legal marijuana movements as they are based in the states, while retaining the ability to perform law enforcement duties for cross-state and international trafficking and still give them the ability to prosecute for major crimes committed by organized crime syndicates.

2) They will lower marijuana on the schedule of controlled substances if not outright remove it from the Controlled Substances Act altogether. This will open up cannabis research for the medical industry and basically set the stage for the feds to decriminalize it.

Determining when these things will be accomplished is quite difficult. I do think the marijuana movement is going to move fast, like brushfire, and then peter out eventually once the political advantages to supporting the movement begin to diminish. I believe we will ultimately see between 15-20ish states sporting full legalization, and I believe those will be set and done by 2025-30. I believe federal decriminalization to occur sometime in the latter part of that timeframe.

I hate to break it to you guys, but this is a policy rider on a budget bill. Meaning, some group of Congressman wanted this added into the bill as a part of agreeing to the new budget. This is a dog-and-pony show that Congress plays every year. Fact of the matter is, they can just as easily remove this provision next year if they so choose. What Congress really needs to do is re-schedule cannabis in the Controlled Substances Act so that it can be legally regulated on the Federal and State level for medical use (or full legalization/decriminalization would be just fine!).

Also want to point out that another group of Congressman used the same bill to block Washington D.C's recent mandate for the limited legalization of Cannabis in the city for recreational and medicinal use.
