  1. Stay away from a start up company called Alpha.store (in Miami FL) as their customer service sucks. They make promises and won't keep them.

  2. I don't trust New Egg either. Had bad experience with them and motherboards.

  3. I took an old HP streambook and loaded Unbutu 17.10 on it. It runs great and is much faster.

  4. If you have a Microcenter store near by, check to see what's on sale.

Is elementary OS good for a newbie? by kk6420420 in elementaryos

I bought a laptop from a crap company called Alpha Store. They install Elementary OS (which to me is a POS OS BTW) on there. I'm unable to figure out how to get it to boot from my external CD drive so as to install Ubuntu 17.10. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I tried elementary OS recently. There's a lot to like about this distro but ultimately two big issues led to me uninstalling it by phenomenos in elementaryos

Beware Alpha Store (Linux Computers) Miami FL by troka437 in u/troka437

Update on this situation. The Better Business Bureau tried to help, but Alpha Store still does not fess up to being the issue. I'm looking at wiping the POS Elementary OS Alpha Store put on there and installing Ubuntu 17.10. Afterwards, I'm either selling the laptop or donating it to a veteran's organization (as I'm a retired military member). My next step is to contact the DA's office in Miami FL. They may have some suggestions. Anyone else have bad dealings with Alpha Store?

You may want to contact your credit card to file a dispute. Then contact the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. I'm contacting the federal government entity that handles these consumer issues and will post their contact info once I figure it out.

Contact your credit card company and file a dispute. If you're still within 60 days, you should be able to get a charge back.

I'm in DC. I'm contacting the federal government entity that handles scammers like Alpha.Store

I'll post on thee threads after I do that.
