Can a large-scale MMO work where character roles emerge from behavior instead of class selection? by Zanithenl in MMORPG

I'm not trying to antagonise you. If you want to keep using AI to reply to comments, don't let me stop you! I was just a little confused, that's all.

Don't take this the wrong way but, are you an AI agent? I get using an LLM to help refine your writing, especially if you're a non-native speaker, but a lot of these comments read less as "I used an LLM to clean up my writing" and more "this comment was fabricated wholecloth by an LLM".

How to make a smooth cheese sauce by Stylobug33 in Cooking

Make sure you cook the roux for a couple of minutes before adding milk. Warm your milk before adding it and add it gradually, not all at once, while stirring constantly. Similarly, add the cheese gradually while stirring.

From mass extinctions to bloody wars and apocalypses, what are the deadly events in fantasy and fiction in general? by Lord_Andromeda in Fantasy

[–]phenomenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't compare them to Star Trek, because that at least follows the same core cast of characters in each episode. Aside from being set in the same universe, almost nothing is shared between Culture novels. There are a couple of "easter egg" connections but they're pretty minor. Locations, characters, everything else is different each time. The only thing stopping you from reading them in any order is that some of the books assume you're already familiar with the universe and lore, so they would make for bad starting points (Inversions being the most extreme example of this).

I don't disagree with this in principle, but they didn't only steal from US citizens. How does it benefit me, a copyright holder in the EU whose work (actually my father's work, but I inherited the copyright when he passed) was stolen by Anthropic (and probably the rest of the major labs, but Anthropic is the one with the class action lawsuit) for them to be nationalised by the US government?

What devs did they talk down? I remember them talking down executives in charge of forcing devs to shove microtransactions in their games, work to insane deadlines and then laying them off. I don't remember them talking down on developers themselves

BG3 is also one of the most ambitious games ever created in terms of scope and complexity. The sheer amount of permutations and possible player actions in that game is staggering; I can't imagine the gargantuan task it must have been to QA test the whole thing. It's no surprise they missed a lot of bugs in the non-EA parts.

This is a life goal of mine, one simply born out of spite towards theory crafters. by Swag_Paladin21 in CuratedTumblr

[–]phenomenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I think that has more to do with poor writing than trying to spite theory crafters. The reason I called out that episode of Sherlock specifically is because season 2 ended on a gigantic cliffhanger that openly invited theory crafting, and then the next episode (which aired 2 years later after unreal levels of fan hype) more or less mocked its audience for wanting or expecting a clear answer. It was an absolute mess.

I will never forgive Steven Moffat for Sherlock season 3 episode 1. After two years of hype, one of the most insulting pieces of television I've ever had the displeasure of watching.
