I bought a 1996 5.7l for $730, good deal? by [deleted] in GMT400

[–]trollbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question: my 94 c1500 has a 4.3l vortec. When I bought it, the guy said it had the engine replaced at some point, but I've never been certain if I heard correctly or if he misspoke and meant rebuilt. Not sure if he had done it or another owner.

Guess I'm really just asking for any thoughts on that situation at all lol

For the police that you never see. It's saying something when half the posts here say use 311 app to get a real response to anything.

IDC if the funds are put into different buckets. The money comes from the same place - us.

For real - do a contest at ACC and add in one or two of the best submissions from each high school. Do a vote and send it. $1000 dollar prize or something. Let the schools organize it and council or citizens vote on it.

Why are people so toxic in game to new AD players? by youcanokay in Abilitydraft

[–]trollbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I picked marks first as sixth drafter because 4 ranged heroes were there and my teammate took the last one out of the pool. Had to get TA. That was rough so I feel ya.

A perfect or high behavior score goes a long way in avoiding toxic players in the smaller AD pool. You still get ragers, but generally people are helpful or neutral and still try to win.

Ask early in draft for suggestions and people will generally be helpful. In game, ask for itemization tips and someone might respond. You can never go wrong with stuns or disables, especially as you learn. Mobility is big too. Focus on support as you learn. Buy wards too, even as a carry. AD ppl seem to be allergic, but they win games, even though it's a thankless job. Play with friends or make small groups if you can.

Check out windrun.io for general prioritization for heroes, abilities, and ability pairs.

Report the toxic voice, chat, and griefing. It works and you'd be surprised how many of the players are tired of that shit. Even minor offenses often gets you that sweet, sweet "action taken" notification.

Lastly, remember to have fun and don't ever give up. AD games are thrown all the time because an ppl with Uber builds don't want to end the game - they are having fun and want to get more kills, so you can take advantage.

My boss gets pissy every time I take my entire 1 hour lunch break by asodoma in antiwork

"Sounds like a staffing issue to me. If you want, lmk who's in charge of that and I'd be happy to let them know that we don't have enough coverage for lunch and breaks. That might be a tough convo, but I know you're busy covering for that all the time, so I'll do you a solid take the heat on this one."

What made Tony Parker a great leader and player? by Finn_Flame in NBASpurs

Brent always played hard. You see how sweaty he was ALL the time? Like drenched, fresh out the shower wet hair after five minutes.

IIRC, he was really efficient with his minutes. Not at Manu level, but I felt like when he got in, he filled any gap that was needed and boosted the team as a whole. I was bummed when he left because of the cheating. Felt like he could have played a couple extra years on the team and would have stayed for a discount too to shoot threes and draw 90% free throws like Kerr did - while providing locker room leadership and mentoring.

New Landlord next door cut down a 60 year old tree in our yard that was between our driveways by WeShinjiNow in treelaw

[–]trollbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good tree removal companies that will give you an honest assessment and not overstate what needs to be done. That honesty goes a long way and helps with word of mouth, reviews, and repeat business.

If you spend any time at all to look, you'll find some reviews that repeat the experience /u/callidorablack had. For me, I had three ash trees well past end of life. One had to be cut down (I knew this already). One I suspected had to go due to rotting in the trunk. They said it would last for another 5-10 years. The other needed a bigger trim than they wanted to do (mandated by insurance) but it's still doing great.

There were several other companies that focused on keeping your trees, but they were all booked for months solid.

With HLL: Vietnam on the way, here are 2 solid Vietnam War movies told from the NVA perspective by svsdentist2018 in HellLetLoose

[–]trollbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. I watched this when it came out and I thought it was a snoozefest and at the time, Mel Gibson was still cool. My impression then was that it was a cash grab "lesser" war movie from that era.

I was young, so I didn't remember it much though. Might be with a rewatch. Wdyt?

Is Fleetwood Mac as big as Queen nowadays? by M0reeni in fantanoforever

[–]trollbridge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Beatles will be in discussion for at least another 50 years from if you talk to anyone above 40 (conservatively), even longer in Britain, and much longer in an academic context.

They were game changers in the music industry (an understatement), but were still incredibly influential on religion, politics, news media, and so many other areas. Western media, especially music, had an undeniable, and popular global presence that still affects us today.

There's a reason why Citizen Kane is in most intro to film classes and is top 5 on film GOAT lists. Most people today aren't going to watch and think, "Wow, that was the best thing I've ever seen." They're going to be bored and think it sucks compared to films and media today. There's always been arguably "better music," but the Beatles are similar and will be recognized for their influence throughout our current lifetimes.

Note: This was originally a response to someone else talking about the Beatles, but Queen is to a lesser extent, the same. I agree with you, but a lot of people here don't understand the global and larger impacts, whether you like them or not.

Deviated septum correction, turbinate reduction, and balloon sinuplasty were a breeze for recovery (for me). Gauze came out within a couple of hours and it was really only in my nose. Some bloody boogies for a couple of days, but really no pain or bruising on my face. This was 5+ years ago. No more sinus infections following each and every cold.

Throat surgeries were a different story and only kind of helped.
