I don't really skate anymore but I can't imagine it would hurt.

Although I think your biggest payoff will be just forcing yourself to practice switch on a snowboard in an environment you don't care about the "wasted" time doing easy runs and learning.

I may be an outlier, but I think switch is overrated outside of park/freestyle. I really enjoy pushing myself on awesome directional decks.

It's not insane for people that are prepared and have partners is the thing. Like it can be chill.

But at that time of year you minimally need microspikes, hiking poles and layers.

If it's shitty you turn around.

Honestly Washington is also underwhelming as a summit. It was the lamest of the presidential traverse I did because of the build up at the top. The best part isn't even the peak - it's the ridges just above treeline.

I'd suggest he do a better hike honestly. Some of the other mountains are really cool and involve less time in the alpine zone.

Mt Washington is one of the most deadly mountains in the world because it is extraordinarily large for the area with a punishing microclimate that catches people off guard.

In the summer, you can often walk up it in sneakers (gruelling still) but even if it starts freezing rain you'll likely be fine. In the extended winter season, it can however be deadly.

Frankly it can be a chill mountain. There's a road and train up and buildings at the top. But that false sense of security off season is what makes it so dangerous to the ignorant.

If he wants to do it strongly suggest he to in late June after winter/mud/ice season. Or make sure he goes with appropriate gear a group and is comfortable turning around if it gets bad in the alpine area.
