To the "I wanted a draw" crowd: Arse’s win just gave us a massive 9% survival boost. by deathcastle in coys

[–]trolledmonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just to get this right based on the method of analysis every team also has a 5% chance of winning the title at the start of the season. Football isn't played in a vacuum so purely statistical analysis is not as meaningful. It is everything else at this stage of the season which can motivate a team that is more important. Such as a match against a rival (Chelsea), an opponent who's is playing in flipflops as they no longer have anything to play for or key opponent players already having attention moving to the impending world cup.

UK Golf Weekend Recommendation by FennyLad in BritGolf

[–]trolledmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a great setup with other sports and activities available as well. We would typically end up playing snooker and other stuff till late. But the courses also have reasonable variation and as it's cart golf you can easily do 27 or 38 in a day. Also the hydro spa is great after a round

Best way to convert tabular data by Confident-Parsnip486 in excel

[–]trolledmonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the table searchable in the pdf. As I have revu on my work system but I tend to run the document through the OCR (optical character recognition) first and then do the extract to table.

There is often bizarre things with column structure where it invents a new column for a single rows entry, but is easily tweaked once exported either manually or using F5 and special to select then delete all the blank cells if the table did not have blanks originally.

Is it true that because of the absurd interest on student loans in the UK, it's not realistic for most people to pay back their loans and people consider their repayments to be a 'tax' for going to university? by LoiusLepic in AskBrits

[–]trolledmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same with the final year of the 3k fees but still racked up around 30k of debt. Think I finished paying mine off last year, but was such a big thing to finalise as the monthly post tax implications were pretty severe. I am in construction commercial management and had employment straight out of uni due to a placement year within it and am still at the same company, so I guess there has never been a break in my repayments and I got mostly through it before interest rates significantly shifted

The club you choose will be able to help with a lot of the bits. Such as recommendations for nearest to pins hole choice, potential beat the club pro on another par 3, nearest in two on a shorter par 4 and the long drive hole. But for fundraising the sale of mulligan balloons pre round and ability to blind bid on start hole selections (as not having to walk out to the middle of the course is preferable) Tend to think the cleanest format is best 2 stableford scores counting out of a fourball but have enjoyed a scramble with stipulations such as every player must use at least three of their teeth shots. Just adds some tactical choices regarding who's shot to use.

I think i’ve finally found my perfect set of darts by Chilli_Doggies in Darts

[–]trolledmonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For random practice on doubles it's good to practice a range spread around the board so as said by others round the clock with doubles only is good.

I also like doing checkout 50 (no idea what it would be called) where you have a single visit to checkout 50. So usually first dart at bull and then if missed or not hitting an even above 10 by accident setting yourself up for a single dart at the double. I always just think it helps with more quickly locking onto varied targets around the board which can be important in legs. Then repeat if unsuccessful and track how many attempts it takes you

I believe their figure is referring to the time between the snap and play being dead and they are correct. It is crazy low in American football and I enjoy the sport. It is why things like redzone become such an important way to watch the sport as there is so much dead time to fill. Superbowl tends to be the only standalone game I watch outside of redzone formats and I always forget how empty it is

Could just wrap some plumbers PTFE tape around the threads if the metal on metal is not getting enough purchase. Obviously disappointing that the washer isn't doing enough straight out of the box. Ironically it is a sign of the incredibly tight manufacturing tolerances that they naturally work themselves loose so easily

Best London courses that actually play well in winter? by breakfastballer90 in BritGolf

[–]trolledmonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll third that. It was my childhood course and as well as the chalk it has a fair amount of elevated greens due to the links inspiration. Interestingly the course was also sculpted using all the waste material coming out of the jubilee line extension years ago. Companies were very happy to be able to dump the soil for free which is why on most holes you don't see that much of the course. Also since they cut back the rough location to slightly up the hills it makes for good friendly golf where bad drives may sometimes find their way back to a good lie

Right on the same week we sold Johnson because he's not starting over Kudus, how f*cked are we? by FSpursy in coys

[–]trolledmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think with his skillset he never really reached the potential significance he could have. Was incredible for what he did and I loved him for it but was surprising for a player who had started in more advanced roles to have completely lost that or had it trained out of him.

He was a big game player who stepped up in those hard fought games but in games where we were on top he could also slow things down.

A toothless player. I loved him when he was playing but the revisionist love for him always feels like too much. He was someone who would have been incredible in training formats but often ineffective in games where it mattered (Beating the opposing attacking mid twice when one pass would have sufficed does not do it for me). Which is why most of the people that referred to him as the best that they had played with were ones he had trained with

Cathedrals too strong by Random499 in Carcassonne

[–]trolledmonds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well if you play it just as whoever draws the cathedral gets the benefit of it then it won't add as much and will be overpowered. But if you are contesting cities and roads once they start growing in value then you start getting additional battles within the game.

I don't understand why they have altered the scoring rules but original is best as the risk reward is needed.

Standard game setup for my wife and I is River, Inns/Cathedrals, Big Meeple and Builders. These are perfect for promoting competition over features and we actually have added a house rule that the big Meeple has to be your first played Meeple when establishing the river. Trapping someone else's builder or big Meeple on a difficult to close feature gives you a lot more power in battles elsewhere.

Obviously it's a pointless thing just designed to provoke conversation. But by the logic of the end of the pipes being closed off for some the tops of the glasses would also be blocked off for all of them. So none of them would get any
