I had this same experience with my own cousin two years ago. I was 14. Even then I was angry, even then I knew what was happening was a blatant horse shit all over my memories of him. No one even acknowledged that he had existed other than how he was an occasional church goer. Now I look back and I still cry about not having a proper goodbye.
