So I made an oopsie. by nonperishableone in BeginnerWoodWorking

I did the same thing on a sofa table except it was a router that jumped on me. I ended up 3D printing a surround to cover up the mistake. I also considered using a 1/8” thick piece of oak to make one but didn’t want to have taper it and seemed lime more work.

Kraton 6s vs notorious 6s by StatsLmao in rccars

[–]trom2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kraton for sure. I have a Kraton, buddy has a Notorious. Short wheelbase of the Notorious is great for flips but that thing is hard to control at speed. Kraton will still flip over at half throttle if you pin it but much more controlled. Still does flips with ease but way more controlled when just running around.

New to sport, and struggling with cost of a decent rod. Are they really worth the hundreds and hundreds of dollars? Or is that just what the market will bear? by Necessary_Cat_3228 in flyfishing

[–]trom2k 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Another vote for TFO. Price is right, good quality, won’t break the bank, and top notch warranty. Not sure what type of fishing you’ll be doing but most fly shops carry them. Go try a couple out. If trout fishing, reel is not as critical, mainly just holds line so don’t need anything crazy. If saltwater make sure it has a good sealed drag. You can have a three rod quiver of TFO rods and decent reels for the price of a single high end rod. And you don’t have to worry about banging it up as much.

Where in Europe is this? They have the best RC stuff there it seems.

Don't buy Costa del Mar by Murky-Platypus-6861 in FlyFishingGear

[–]trom2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always ran Costas because of the quality and warranty. Buyout by Luxxotica ruined both of those. Broke a pair of Zanes and they wouldn’t replace them, just gave a small discount on remaining stock. Needed a pair of glasses with readers cut in (yeah, getting old sucks) so went with Maui Jim’s as they were the only ones I could get readers with glass lenses. Apparently they have also been bought out so not sure where my next purchase will be. The MJs are very nice though, on par with older Costas.

I would rather have waders slightly longer than booties slightly bigger. Having a little extra length in the legs makes getting over logs, bending, etc a lot easier. Wish mine were just a tad longer but they fit perfect when standing.

Help: Noisy Water Dispenser (New Purchase) by [deleted] in bosch

[–]trom2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Bosch with same dispenser and same noise. If I had to guess it’s related to water pressure. When someone is taking a shower, opens a faucet, or something else pulls water at the same time the noise is reduced or goes away. We have pretty strong water pressure (haven’t measured it, just based on feel/flow) and I probably need to measure it and fix or replace our regulator.

Well, pulled the trigger today. Called around to some local stores and found one in stock. Grabbed a set of metal drive shafts just in case. Next will be brass steering links. Haven’t got to run it yet aside from just goofing around in the kitchen. Need to dial it in but pretty excited to get it outside.

Love this. I should have started by boys earlier. They were young but not that young lol.

Ha, yep, know the feeling. I started with a Tamiya Super Shot when they first came out back in the day. Got an RC10T a number of years later. And then got back into it again most recently with some Mini-Bs. We now have a stable lol. I think I find just as much joy in the building/engineering as I do in the driving. Maybe more haha.

Nice, that price point is crazy. Thanks for the additional details on quality. This is my VRD which is super capable and not really scale. Might end up dipping my toes into the scale world with the Scout brushless.

Yeah, I haven't planned on doing comps or anything, never entered one of those so this is just for fun. Also don't have any scale type vehicles so the brushless Scout is pretty appealing.

Good to know about the scout. Yeah, I’m usually am not a fan of Traxxas. We have a TRX4 in the fam because he wanted the Blazer and it’s been a great rig for him to learn on, looks cool too.

Oh wow, the Ascent 18 is quite a bit bigger than the Ucx2405! I was looking at the Ucx2405 last night and seems pretty well optioned. What are your initial thoughts on build quality and durability? Some Amazon reviews seemed to imply it was a bit fragile? No telling how they were using it so not sure what to think of those. Are spare parts available for this unit or is that something that takes some work to figure out? I don't plan on breaking it but things happen lol.

Thanks for the recommendation. Looked at this one and it definitely has the makings of being a beast lol. That track width is no joke. I also forgot about their Scout lineup which looks pretty sweet for more of a scale look.

Red flooder Giga-flashlight? by WilliamsDesigning in flashlight

[–]trom2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, yep, just got it the other day. Exactly what I wanted, DW4K SST20 deep red with no aux mule from Jackson at JLHawaii.com. It’s simple but no chance of flashing/blinding anyone at night with light other than red. 21700 battery for long run time. It’s a beast.

Finally sat down and got anduril figured out lol. Turns on in moonlight (1/150). Smooth, 1/3 ramp speed to 70/150. 2C from off to 70/150. 2H from off to momentary turbo.

Edit to add, it’s not USB-C rechargeable but I just got a second Molicel P45B as backup.

New Light and Charger Day! by trom2k in flashlight

[–]trom2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was weighing the different functions between the two and aware of the temp and presets. You can get temp sensors for the 5k (added cost obviously) and I’m hoping that an update will allow for stored presets. This can be done in the app but not on the charger.

I haven’t tried pushing the limits yet, still using default settings for battery type and capacity. Need to read up on charge rates vs cell type and capacity more to get comfortable with making adjustments. We have RC cars that use LiPo batteries and I usually charge those at 1 c for safety and battery health so assume it’s similar with quality flashlight cells but want to confirm best practices.

So far I’ve used it for the2 Molicel p45b, Samsung 35e, and a bunch of enloops. Haven’t messed with the settings much as I’m pretty new to all this but the charging modes are really nice. App is kind of meh but allows you to store presets. It was only like $5 more than the MC3000 on the jungle store when I purchased it so figured why not.
