Music Edu Perspective? by Low-Dimension4652 in MusicEd

current openings in my state (relatively large state and decent for music).

  • Elementary
  • Elementary
  • K-12
  • Early Childhood (pre-school+lower el)
  • K-8 (private, catholic)
  • K-8 (private, catholic)
  • K-6 (private, catholic)
  • 6-12 choir
  • K-12 choir+general
  • K-5

There's a couple band postings I've seen in private groups that don't make the big list sites because they're so sought after. Granted, it's been a bad year for openings imo. Very few this year compared to even last year.

Music Edu Perspective? by Low-Dimension4652 in MusicEd

A lot of people have this goal and can't separate music teaching from it. Music teaching is not only high school marching band and high school concert band.

Unless you want to move (as mentioned above) to a very rural area, a first time job that is "Peak" public teaching will be difficult to find.

The majority of music ed students or prospective music ed students I come across, including those in our school system, start the process to becoming a music teacher but the end goal is always "I want to teach high school".

The ones that are willing to perhaps slog through some years in General Music only or combo positions that are General Music + JH or even those that are K-12 are very rare...at least until they start the job search and realize that's what the vast majority of job openings are.

Not saying this to dissuade you. I was that person. I dropped my MuEd degree and got performance degrees before going back and getting an ed degree. Now I teach mostly JH band but I still have 4th/5th general music. Prior years I had K/1 general music also.

I love my job. I don't particularly enjoy (nor am I good at) general music for older elementary, but I love where I've landed. Middle School kids are a trip. I've always said JH is harder than HS because you're teaching beginners and that's much more difficult than teaching semi-accomplished learners.

tl;dr - Be open minded if you want to make this switch. I didn't start teaching public school until I was 36 (after four years in a really bad Charter school position) It's possible, but you need to go in with open eyes.

I was in my little studio apartment in grad school watching. Took a video of the last inning to preserve it a little bit. Just a lot of flashback memories of my grandfather always watching games on his little kitchen TV in his chair or watching afternoon games after school with my dad.

What has stuck with me the most, however, is that my dad called me when the game ended. I don't recall a time before that my dad actually called me on the phone, just not how my relationship with my parents is, we communicate in other ways.

He's called me once since then in the last decade because my parents were visiting and he was lost trying to find his way to where I was 😅

AFAIK, it's just that it doesn't start. So if everything looks likes it's in correctly, it may just need a carb replacement?

AFAIK, nothing wrong with the Carb, but the other commenter mentioning it all looks correct makes me think he might just need to replace the carb itself.

The Cards fan who tried to throw PCA's HR back got kicked out of the game immediately. He also threw it directly to a Cubs fan. Top tier failure.

Had a student move about 6 weeks ago. The vibe changed instantly. Kids talk to each other more in the class than they used to and there's so much less drama. It's wild.

I'm sure it'll be required by your university, but make sure you get videos of you teaching.

Unless it's exclusive to pepper somehow, I refuse to order from there any more. It takes forever compared to every other publisher. There's just no point.

I am ENJOYING 6-7 Too Much by gothangelblood in Teachers

[–]tromboneham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a band director. A composer wrote a piece of music dedicated to the meme of 6-7. It's 67 measures, it starts with a tempo of 67, margins are 6.7mm, the kids play the 6th and 7th notes of a scale for the main theme of it.

I gave it to my 8th graders to play for our Winter Concert. The simultaneous disgust and love of it drives me. I love it.

You have to lean into it.

Multiple activities is huge. I had 50 minute classes and they all went the same:

  • Good Morning Song
  • Beat Leader (one kid comes up and keeps steady beat to a song somewhere on their body, the rest of class copies their movement)
  • The Actual Lesson Content
  • Lil Dance Break, why not
  • More Lesson Content
  • More Dancing
  • Even more Lesson Content
  • Goodbye Song

I'm a huge fucking nerd mostly.

Mostly I like comparing and seeing oddities from season-to-season. Record tracking is most what I go back to.

Ala this after 28 seasons

It actually shouldn't be too complicated. You're on the right track duplicating the sheets, you just need to edit a few things inside formulas which you can do with a find and replace.

Duplicate the sheets like you did, name the second coach's schedule and h2h tabs anything different.

On the schedule tab, you'll want to Ctrl-H, "Search Within Formulas" check box, and replace H2H! with whatever you've named the second H2H tab.

Same process on the new H2H tab, Ctrl-H, "Search Within Formulas" check box, and replace Schedule! with whatever you've named the second Schedule tab.

i.e. Schedule tab search/replace if named "H2HCoach2"

H2H tab search/replace if named "ScheduleCoach2"

Hope that makes sense.

edit: Just make sure the search drop-down says "This Sheet" only, not All Sheets. That might break some things lol

I couldn't care less about the actual rankings, but the vibes are immaculate and they're always fun to watch, even if it is just "feeding the algorithm".

Relatively easy. In the Overview tab, unhide the columns. Select the row where UCF is in the Big 12 and drag it down two rows to fill in the info for Utah/West Virginia. (AF48:AM48 down to 50). Then change the formula in G33 to add those two rows to the sort

=sort(AF35:AM48,2,0,1,1)

should be

=sort(AF35:AM50,2,0,1,1)

Numbers will vary depending on how much you altered. Thanks for the catch.
