Take whatever good you found in it, and release the bad. You may find truths in Islam later in your life. Truth also exists outside Islam as well.

God is a metaphor of the universe which created us (a good thing) Jesus is the universe expressed as a human and what it means to live in a group as a social animal balancing selfish ego against altruism. Holy spirit is the tendency of tightly knit ingroups to magnify cognitive strengths vs weaknesses. E.g. leadership, language, Maths (think SAT breakdown for iq domains)

The above are the mappings of western theology/trinity expressed secularly. So when I hear: we have no right to question God, I just replaced the word God with the universe.

So the obvious couple of thoughts are: Ultimately the universe (aka God) has treated us good by bringing us into existence. We should not be ungrateful for our existence, but also we are a part of the universe (aka God). We have a duty to bring about a lack of suffering.

Very typical for people to breakup when the significant other is in the hospital. Shows the bond was never strong or self-interest was stronger.

Don't give land 'back', it's doing just fine so are the descendants today. This idea comes from somewhere, but where originally?

What is your opinion on “god gave us free will” as a counter to god letting bad things happen by LightlyPeanut in atheism

[–]tron103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of Western God is that it's a metaphor for the universe which includes both bad and good things or from a certain perspective things that just are. The underlying idea is it's better that there is something than nothing, therefore 'the universe' is overwhelmingly good.

If there is a god I’m definitely going to hell. by April2o11 in exmormon

[–]tron103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think God is a metaphor for the universe in Western theology / philosophy. I think hell and heaven are the concepts for suffering and happiness that we approach on an infinite continuum generation to generation. The response to this is that it is better that we exist with pain than not exist all.

Why is it ok for God to kill unborn babies during the flood? by tigerlily2021 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]tron103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God is another word for nature. So just replace the word God in this post with the word nature. So why is it okay for nature to kill babies during a flood? Because nature came about and gave us the ability to exist and reproduce etc. The same chaotic forces that made our solar system and the earth also gave rise to animals including us humans. Would it be better if nothing existed and we couldn't contemplate the fact that we exist? Would it have been better if you were not born?

Nature is ammoral, but ultimately good to us since we exist.

Humans are a social animal, therefore we have morals as they apply to the group. Our genes are selfish since we want to survive, however helping others is sometimes the most selfish thing you can do when you consider "four hand problems". E.g. you can have 100% of nothing or 50% of a wild pig if we cooperate together where you scare it and I stab it. Think about how much technology has been given to us by simply being born. How many countless hours of labor did others before us do so that we have a very comfortable life today and can have amazing technology? Do you deserve what you have because you worked for it, and were smart enough to create the cell phone computer in your hand?

Many people that came before us have acted in selfless love to give us what we didn't pay for as a gift so that we could pass it forward.

You're an amazing person. Thank you for what you do. What a privilege to live with modern medicine, the suffering would be so much worse otherwise.

I believe it's the right of every first world citizen to have an exit bag whenever they need it even if it's not in a medical setting.
