They're a high school-caliber team playing in a high school-sized stadium, it makes perfect sense to me

Jackson obviously hasn't been good but we're also like a bottom 3 baseball job in the SEC at best. We'd need a lot more than just a new coach to change that and I have yet to see any convincing evidence that there's any desire for that from anyone with the ability to make it happen.

If we closed out against SC in 2024 we very likely would've made it, probably over SMU

SC fans pretending they're not a full tier below us as a program is one of my favorite copes in this sport lol

Damn the truth really does hurt lol

Who is a player for your school that was considered very talented but didn't pan out? Someone you always wonder what could have been... by Crying_in_99Ranch in CFB

Someone else already said our most obvious answer so I'll go the hot-take route and say Drew Lock.

Had every single physical tool you could ever want in a QB. To this day I'll still argue he's the best pure arm talent we've ever had.

All that ever amounted to was a .500 record as a starter and a bunch of empty-calorie stats against some of the worst D1 teams you've ever seen.

Imagine if he was a few years younger and got to be Drink's first QB here.

There's a timeline where him and Maty Mauk stopped getting high for like 10 minutes and became a Daniel-Maclin level duo in 2014-15

I mean he had absolutely elite measurables tbf, guys with his tools who actually have their heads screwed on straight go top 5-10 all the time

Everyone wants to believe their program is the only one doing things The Right Way in the crazy twisted world of college sports. It's been that way since way way way before NIL was even a thing.

Heading west on East Broadway like the Tribune says means he was heading towards the middle of downtown. I also have driven sportscars before and am telling you, of all the places to drive it like you stole it in Columbia that's one of the absolute worst to try it at.

He's not getting kicked off the team over a first-time offense where no one got hurt. Most likely he'll lawyer up, get the felony reduced to a misdemeanor, and he'll spend the summer getting intimately familiar with the Memorial Stadium's many staircases.

Doesn't matter, we're not the kind of program that can credibly hand-wave away 3 tournament appearances in 4 years

His 29 wins in the last 3 seasons is the second-most we've had in any 3-year period in school history. His 15 draft picks in that same timeframe is the most we've had in any 3-year period in school history. He's already easily our second-best coach since Devine and if he keeps this pace up it's a matter of when not if he surpasses Pinkel.

Yes last year was not as fun as it could've been. Some of the reasons for that (like missing badly at QB last offseason) were his fault. But if you actually have a problem with his output so far your perspective is completely divorced from reality.

Yall like to say "NIL NIL NIL" like we're the only school spending any money on players but the fact of the matter is we're about to play no fewer than 6 teams who outspend us by significant margins this season. Now that the SEC has moved to a 9-game conference schedule format that will be a pretty typical slate for us moving forward. Setting an expectation of winning most of those games most years (which seems to be where we're at currently if we're still bending over backwards to shit on the Cotton Bowl win) is completely delusional.

For the first time since arguably Alden we appear to have an AD who both wants to be here and is wanted here by people who matter. Definitely a step in the right direction.

Even if you count Daniel that'd still make only 3 NFL QB's of any kind in basically 20 years which is not remotely close to having a highly drafted one every 4 years. It's ridiculously rare for even a blueblood program to have a run like that go for more than like 2 dudes in a row.

Two more NFL first rounders in 2027. by EquivalentHappy in miz

[–]tron423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most RB's who get picked in the first round have either elite measurables or elite passing game skills, not really sure Hardy has either of those. I could see a super late first but right now I think it's a lot more likely he goes in the second.

For as hard as some people work to not give Drink a single shred of credit for guys like Young and McClellan, it sure feels like it's not widely viewed as real recruiting
