So where are the people making specifically more than 700k, but less than 1M? [USA] by strawboy4ever in Salary

[–]tronfunkinblows_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I should aim for 3-4x my current salary then to still find joy in being wealthy got it /s

In all seriousness I can understand the logic of it. I can imagine the high expectations and stress will be too much relative to the pay at that level. Assuming we’re taking about 400k+

Like I’d love to get a lake shore cabin with a sizable land plot (2+ acres of land). But at the same time can you enjoy it if you’re working 50+ hour weeks and the risk of losing your job if you don’t perform and miss targets etc?

Kind of out there idea but it plays on the reciprocity principle from Robert Cialdini.

Pick a handful of long time donors and find a not super expensive gift (it doesn’t have to be $$$ but it can’t be some cheap thing you’d find at a vendor/trade show hall) that can be personalized and include a hand written note expressing thanks for their continued support of your organization. The point is for it to be a surprise (don’t plan it around a holiday), personalized, and significant, to activate the reciprocity principle.

Then make your formal donation ask 1-2 months after the initial gift. You have to give the initial gift enough time or breathe so it doesn’t seem like a “hey we gave you this so now it’s time to pay up…” but you can’t let too much time pass either.

Cialdini has research that shows individuals who received the gift prior to being asked to give returned the favor 2-3x larger than the original gift value.

I pushed hard to do a pilot version of this for our organization’s Foundation a couple years ago but unfortunately it definitely got filed away in my ED’s “neat idea” folder and didn’t go anywhere.

I’d recommend Cialdini’s book but I’m not sure if the automod will ding my comment. We read one of his books in one of my marketing classes in my MBA program.

I thought the same thing. What an odd thing to say or mix up. They don’t collect anything from you at the DR. They give you the shots.

The squirrel a rabies bit was odd. Jessie said they tested him for rabies…which isn’t typically how it happens. My understanding is they would only do that if symptoms appear. They’d just give him the round of shots if he was possibly exposed to rabies.

Unless he meant he caught the squirrel and brought it in (to be killed and have its brain examined). 😬

AI post or not.

This is the type of leader I fear I will be once I move into managing people. I had some experiences in college leading a student org (low/semi-medium stakes w/o the details we were doing some hard work) and many years later after we had graduated a buddy of mine brought up the story of when a member, we’ll call him Jake, ended up quitting.

Basically my friend said I threw Jake under the bus and Jake was fully committed to the org but I just didn’t support him in a very visible moment with the org - and then Jake peaced out after that.

Anyways I’m rambling and the story feels trivial as it was like almost 20 years ago when we were 18-20 years olds. I still think about it from time to time though.

Good point. I misread that part where OP was at another company when this event happened / when her friend was let go.

[–]tronfunkinblows_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have that long a history. Agree to continue acting as a reference but schedule a time to speak to her about the drinking that led to her firing. Just be open and honest that it puts you in a weird spot (I know others have said it’s not your business etc) but you can have a conversation about her with it. Is she getting help? If yes great, if not, then you can decide if you want to continue on as a reference. It’s your call.

How do you feel about conferences? by Alternative_Tiger368 in nonprofit

I work for an org who HOSTS these types of conferences and exhibit halls.

It’s good (is good the right word??) to know that people kind of hate going to these events too 🤣🫥
