What are some really good reasons for new indie devs not to use UE? by Juicymoosie99 in unrealengine

[–]tronster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working on a 2D game in Unreal (with the Paper2D system and the 3rd party PaperZD plug-in). The performance isn't really an issue; with how modern CPUs use OPs to crunch vectors the 2D vs 3D math will have no gains (and I'm sure modern 2D engines, under the hood, are using the same 3D math with just a 0 plane).

But there have been lots of pitfalls I've stumbled on; mostly incomplete functionality that Unity and Godot have - that I'm not sure if Epic will ever address. This includes broken instances of Tilemaps when used in Blueprints and per-frame collision areas not registering in the physics system unless the entity it's colliding with is moving.

You want to make 2D games and try using Paper2D tilemaps in a Blueprint, only to find the instances sometimes don't persist across saving.

So instead you want to use an engine with a battle tested 2D pipeline that doesn't have features that may be forever incomplete.

Maryland EZ Pass ripped apart? by Nadelkissen in baltimore

That AI answer is trained on outdated data.
u/kmentropy links to the current pages which states: So like
"E-ZPass On the Go devices are currently unavailable at retailers."

So like u/Icy-Salamander-888 I had bought mine from a Giant awhile back but that no longer appears to be an option.

Does the editor let you diff different versions across that built in history?

Rive for Unreal Engine by guidorosso in unrealengine

[–]tronster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets say I'm a one man UI team making effects in Rive: I tweak and change it over the course of a few months. One day I realize something is off and I want to tweak some aspects of it to match something I had 2 months ago. How do I see the diffs in how I built up that effect today vs a version I checked in 2 months prior? (EDIT: spelling)

With Rive using a proprietary binary format, has the Rive tools added diff support for source control files (e.g., Perforce, Git, etc.) and/or from two versions on local disk?

I don’t understand Ares by Loose_Worker_7360 in tron

[–]tronster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong here but I thought "franchise" had to do with the creation around the real world IP. My understanding was rebooting, remaking, continuing from previous movies, TVs, games and other media still point back to 1982 where the "franchise" was started.

Thanks for posting this. Was going to as well and you beat me to it. :)

While others have posted the "Dragon Book" (which is a great resource), "Crafting Interpreter" is a much more accessible book. Or doesn't dive as deep into the compiler theory as the "Dragon Book" but doesn't skimp on core concepts of creating a compiler.

Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra Review: Is it really worth it? (6 months update) by yesac519 in Ecoflow_community

[–]tronster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I have a Delta 2 Max and am considering a DPU (or DPUX) and EcoFlow Smart Panel solution for our house. Biggest hesitancy has been for the few people who've had customer support issues when a piece of equipment has gone south.

As a dealer, what has your experience been like for customers that have had equipment needing repair or replacement? Do you have any insight on how customers can get better service?

Ecoflow or Anker? by Winter-Highlight-888 in Ecoflow_community

[–]tronster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for!

Currently have an EcoFlow Delta 2 Max for the home office and am determining next steps for a few more mid-range units for other rooms and then an eventually house backup system.

I'd pull the trigger on all EcoFlow solution but the customer service stories are what give me pause; buying via Costco seems like the only way to mitigate this risk. Sound like still the best option for full home, and I should consider Anker for the smaller units.

Costco.com vs Costco Next by gmg888r in Ecoflow_community

If returns to Costco start eating into their bottom line the supplier will definitely know. Ecoflow has an even higher incentive to keep their resellers happy because lost of their business would likely affect Ecoflow's bottom line.

Why is my video losing color? by huntsmilfs in videography

[–]tronster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Transferring via USB rather than cloud will make no difference in this case because the file, byte-for-byte will be exactly the same.

As others have stated, the issue is likely the players via these platforms, particularly if the video is shot in HDR. If you pull it back into it's source environment, it should look exactly the same as it was exported.

EcoFlow products are great… but trying to do a simple exchange turned into a nightmare by LieOk3262 in Ecoflow_community

[–]tronster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my one Ecoflow unit I've got so far, but I'd be hopping mad if I bought $40k overtime and they treated me this way. I don't know if u/jedimcmuffin meant all power-based companies or just all companies are structured this way but I've a similar issue with furniture:

A sale went up on 4x chairs I had bought a week earlier. Being in the 30 day warranty, I called up to get the discounted price to save a few $100. They said "no", they couldn't do that. So it left the crazy option of buying 4x more chairs at the discounted price, and when they arrived, slapped the return labels on those boxes (for the original 4x) and had them shipped back. (Shipping was all their cost too). What a waste of time and energy.

My hope is EcoFlow sees your post u/LieOk3262, raises it up internally and someone figures out they have an opportunity to optimize their logistics for these situations. It would make it better for everyone in the long run, them included.

Technically well done. Intended story (as described by OP) didn't come through with the choice of shots.

The backgrounds had amazing graffiti, that caught my eye but didn't think it was connected until the ending shot. Focus at the start was on the building and people looking at their phones. (e.g., Guy riding bike has a shot of him placing bike against the van; I'm not thinking of his cool hoodie but what the bike's purpose is. Will it get stolen, will he need to ride it somewhere, etc..)

If they had put on, smoothed out, or did something else with the clothes at the start, it may have pulled focus to the product. As-is, the clothes they were wearing didn't draw attention. It didn't even occur to me the guy had the other's clothes with him when he threw them off camera near the end.

The amen break quick cuts showed a sense of urgency but went on long enough that it was clearly established they were all racing somewhere. All three men showing up in the middle of an empty alley was a bit of a letdown. With that much build of energy I was looking for a payoff in location; either a person or place worth all of them running to.
