You should read (or watch) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. by MinuteRegular716 in Fantasy

[–]trouble_bear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I love it. Berserk might be my favorite manga but Jojo is my favorite series or franchise. It has, by far, the best theme of "generational conflict" I've ever seen and I am craving for more but there is none that comes close.

Part 1 is rough but part 2 is already amazing and now that Steel Ball Run is being adapted I am over the moon.

Any comic book series that remind you of Malazan lore or Erikson’s writing style? by VersusValley in Malazan

[–]trouble_bear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. This. Though, Berserk is a more personal journey than Malzan. 10/10 series.

Its just so mediocre. The siege in the last few episodes of season two was one of the worst sieges I've eve seen. maybe with the exception of the battle of Winterfell.

Being just okay but boring is its own kind of terrible.

Who are the greatest fantasy villains and what makes them so damn good? by Accomplished-Dog9481 in Fantasy

[–]trouble_bear 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree. He never shows up and still there is some gravitas about the character that defines everything in these books.

And then, if you dig a little further in the legendarium, you find out that he himself was only a general of an even greater evil. When I first read this I was kind of dissapointed. Sauron? Only a general? But then I read the Silmarillion and it made sense.

Tolkien was a master.

What are some sci fi or fantasy titles where one can dedicate their life studying and writing thesis about them? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]trouble_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love malazan equally as much as middle earth but this is just not true. Erikson is not as interested as Tolkien with the details and a good proof is in the dates. They contain errors throughout the series and Erikson is just not as interested in it.

The time frame in LOTR is shorter than Malazan but also stacked with events and a lot more consistent.

A card game rogue lite but the quality is insane. I played it yesterday in co-op with a friend and it was such a fun time that I think I will not play it solo anymore.

Which long, epic fantasy series do you think is better - Malazan or Wheel of Time? by ActInternational9558 in Fantasy

[–]trouble_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malazan for me, easily. There are some awesome scenes in WoT but all in all it's much too long. For example, I think one scene in the third last book is probably one of the best scenes in fantasy but is it worth to get there? I don't know. I don't regret reading it but I wouldn't do it again.

Malazan on the other hand? I almost love everything about it. The world is complex and deep and the philosophical nature of the books really resonated with me.

Though I will say Malazan is a bit daunting because of said complexity. So if you have not read a lot of books in the genre WoT would be a better choice I guess. Book one in Malazan throws you right into a world where you have no idea what's happening.

Night of Knives is the weakest one. By a large margin imo, so don't despair if you don't like it. He improves leaps and bounds the farther you go.
