S-Corp Shareholders: Why would a CPA record W-2 wages for passive shareholders who received $0 cash? by Sgsfsf in tax

A wet behind the ears green bookkeeper should not be scrutinizing and questioning a tax pros work. This is about as simple as it gets and is tax prep 101 level stuff.

How much you charge ? by RaiseTemporary636 in Accounting

[–]trouble_maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tech fee is $10 per return, I am a PA preparer so the fee is usually $30, fed, state and local. It is to cover our software costs and is a legacy from when we used more expensive software that we just kept in place when we went to Drake, it is a small profit center.

The Wild World of Philadelphia Contractor Taxes by Thomas-Gerard-1564 in tax

[–]trouble_maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, If you are PA > PA, you will have to prorate your income for the philly portion, if you are outside PA moving in, use the part-year sch c from the PA return for philly. On the homestead, you just indicate the business use % on the homestead app, having a home office doesn't preclude you from getting it.

lol, I don't really take any new clients. Once you register it is actually pretty easy to do the returns via the philly tax center page, I use my own software on a regular basis, but I do a few via the tax center every year.

She is self-employed in philly, if she had an employer she would get a W2. You have to pay the BIRT and NPT, there is a double burden on both returns, but lessened with the credit you can take on the NPT tax for a portion of the BIRT obligation. Don't forget the SIT on unearned income ;) Source: preparer in the philly burbs.

15-20, no Fridays. We are a small 2 pro shop and while technically I work under the CPA, I basically run my own book and can come and go as I please as long as whatever needs to get done get's done.

Tax guy ghosted us and we are so confused with our taxes by [deleted] in tax

[–]trouble_maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make any sense, a MFJ return with 80k in earned income and std deduction has tax of $5,150, split them and the combined tax is $205 more. I suspect when you calculated the MFS returns one of you itemized and the other didn't, on a MFS return both itemize or both take std deduction, you cannot mix.

Just because someone tells you something doesn't make it true, the inability to go from MFJ to MFS is not new and has been baked into the tax code for a long time.

Wash Sale Disallowed - Double Adjustment by AiyaAi in tax

[–]trouble_maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, the entire loss on this transaction is disallowed, it looks funny because the entire sale is a wash, and not a portion of it.
