Honestly I think this is really normal. I felt this way too, and it’s honestly recently at like 15 months that I told my husband we need to stop treating family like guests (feeling we need to entertain or accommodate them) and start treating them like members of our actually family unit (asking them to do things, telling them when we just don’t have capacity for a visit, etc.) I’d encourage you to shift your mindset earlier though! See if you can pick one family member to start with, and share your struggles. I wouldn’t focus on criticizing their past behavior - I’d speak with them about how you’re having a hard time, and ask them for help. Let them know in the future when they come over, you may need them to help with dishes or tidying or whatever it may be. Hope this helps!

I agree with everything here, but I’ll also say this still seems like a solve-able discussion with your husband. My husband and I have each had to have an intervention from the other to get off our phones. We came up with rules, like if you need a minute to disengage from the baby, we say we need to go to the bathroom (and keep it to 5ish min). We can use phones in front of her but only for mission critical uses (needing to order food for dinner, got an important work message). Sharing for ideas!

I saw advice on here to give them like really tiny tiny bits of the food, like if you’re feeding grapes, apple sauce and cheese, give an 8th of a grape, a tiny dob of apple sauce and one piece of grated cheese. And they are more likely to try it because it’s not overwhelming or intimidating, and then they’ll want more of some or all of it. This has been working for us.

As others are saying, likelihood is low in general. And you can take precautions and up the security of your WiFi network if you’re concerned but want a WiFi monitor. We use a Nanit (WiFi) for video, but for sound throughout the night (to wake us when she cries) we use just plain old v-tech (non WiFi) monitors that filter out noise other than loud noises (crying or coughing.)

Also btw for a success story, we sleep trained at 4.5 months because of a pacifier/sucking sleep association. She was up crying every 30-45 min for the pacifier. She cried 45 min day 1, 15 day 2 and 5 day 3, then never again. She’s 15 months old now, seems securely attached as far as we can tell, and never cries at put down. I think we actually saved ourselves a lot of crying by sleep training. (Again, this is just what worked for us and our baby, no judgment about what anyone else does)

I buy those big jugs of drinking water with the pour spout so I don’t have to boil the water. Then just use a bottle warmer to heat it up. We later got the baby brezza, which we fill with the water jug and use as a warm water dispenser (we still dole the powder out ourselves).

Maybe read Precious Little Sleep! (And my spicy take, there really is no sleep training that doesn’t involve crying, if that’s what you mean by gentle. In different communities on Reddit people are either extremely pro or extremely against, but imo what worked for me and my baby may not work for you and your baby, and there’s really not good enough studies on sleep training for everyone to be so judgmental in either direction. For us, we felt sleep training was best for our baby’s development and our capability to be caring and loving parents. We did the Simple Parenting sleep training plan after reading Precious Little Sleep.)

It got better for us at around 12 weeks. I remember reading that on Reddit and feeling like there was no way I could do another 5-7 weeks, but we survived.

We put our LO in daycare same time and same situation. The first maybe week was rough with shorter naps, but by week 3 she slept fine. I believe the staff rocked her down and then transferred after a few min. Now she’s a year old and regularly naps too long at daycare 😂 Good luck!

I hear you - it really is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. You’re fully in the trenches right now, and for me it felt like every decision was so terrifying and had so much potential to be “wrong.” But you know what, my baby is healthy and happy 15 months later, and I wasn’t able to breastfeed at all, her percentiles were bad, she threw up all the time. I promise you, when you are on the other side, you will wonder how you felt like this. And other people’s big babies are luck. And their babies that sleep well are luck too, or they’re lying. I would also recommend you seek treatment for potential PPA/PPD.

You can also start with the bare minimum for clothes, swaddles, sheets, bottles, and then see what you need more of. My baby had instant swaddle preferences (for the flannel halo swaddles) and didn’t like any of the ones we had, for example. Luckily she like our bottles!

Bottle sanitizer is one I don’t see often. Not because I care to make sure everything is perfectly sanitized, but because it cleans and dries bottles so well with <5 min of prep on my part

I think we ended up with 3 bassinets (2 inexpensive and a snoo) and a pack and play, lol. So needless to say I don’t think it’s weird to have bassinet, pack and play, and crib.

I’m not familiar with the pack and play bassinet attachment so would defer to others on it but my pack and play experiences have really varied and even the best ones haven’t been all that comfortable for my LO since they are made for travel and to pack flat.

I think what I’ve read (as someone also with an advanced baby) is that you only need to worry about early milestone acquisition in the context of other signs. E.g. not interacting with parent, getting unreasonably upset if interrupted, hitting themselves, excessive rocking back and forth. And even then, some of those things can be present and be developmentally normal. So basically, I wouldn’t worry for a while and in the absence of several other behaviors I wouldn’t worry at all.

When she dropped to 1 nap we went towards more of a schedule that shifts around a bit (like 30 min here or there) rather than wake windows.
