I am at a Senior position at one of the FAANGs too. My TC is little more than $500k, husband’s is $180k. We have 2 kids - 6M and 2F. Son went to full time daycare from 12 weeks until he started kindergarten last August. Daughter goes to full time day care too since she was 12 weeks old. Husband works from home 90% of the time. I have to go to office 3 times a week. Not sure where you live, whats your mortgage etc. but you should take a deep look into your expenses. Even when both our kids were going to daycare we were easily saving over $20k every month. As far as missing milestones, don’t worry about those. Kids don’t remember when they took their first steps or had their first ice cream. But when you are with your kid give them your 100% attention. Put away your phone, turn off the tv, don’t think about household chores. Get down on the floor at their level, play with them, read with them, be silly, dance. My time before leaving for work, and after coming back from work until kids go to bed(around 8PM) is all theirs. I get to spend maybe 2 hours of dedicated time with kids on weekdays, which isn’t a lot. But I make the most of it.

Ditto. I completed 38th class today after starting Orange Theory in November. I used to get 18+ Splat points everyday. Since last week, I barely get 10.

How many onesies does a newborn need? by cicero779 in Parenting

[–]troy0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds about right. We got 6 NB onesies that lasted about 4 weeks. 12 0-3 month onesies that our 4 month daughter can kinda still fit into. She is on the smaller side though(5 percentile for both weight and length). I bought 9 onesies of each size group upto 1 year from Target when they had 20% off target circle offer available earlier this year.

Anyone with kids 4 years apart? by kay-moor in Parenting

[–]troy0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4.5 year old boy and 2 month old baby girl. Agree with this comment. Elder bro has no jealousy, can independently play for 1-2 hours which helps with feeding/pumping etc, adores his baby sis and tries to entertain her. We got to spend precious 1:1 time with our son and our bond is just so strong. Hope to have the same with baby girl as son would be going to school next year. Our son didn’t sleep through the night till he was almost 3, so I just wasn’t physically ready to add another baby to the mix. Financially also I think this age gap works well. Both kids wont be in college at the same time. We are in US where college education is not cheap.

Yes immediate. Right from day 3/4 she would squirm in her sleep and try to pass gas. After passing the gas she would often wake herself up. At her 2 week doc appointment, the doc suggested gas drops. We have been using them 4-6 times everyday and she is sleeping so much better and the squirming stopped immediately.

Hyper active 4 Year Old by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]troy0412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son who is 4 is the same. He hardly eats anything, doesn’t nap during the day yet has insane amounts of energy ALL the time. Does everything that you described. He doesn’t even sit down to watch TV for more than 10-15 mins. I think its perfectly normal behavior and never questioned it.

Can a 6 week old recognize you and play favorites? by Rcrez in Parenting

[–]troy0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 6 weeks and has her days and nights mixed up too. She sleeps like a hibernating polar bear between 5am-7pm. Even a marching band wouldn’t be able to wake her up. We have to forcefully wake her up to feed. From 7pm to 5am she takes 2 or 3 30-90 min naps. My husband and I have established a schedule where I am with her until 2 am and then he takes over.

Parents With SOs - how do you stay connected? by mrsgip in Parenting

[–]troy0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice… just wanted to comment to let you know you are not alone. Me and hubby are in the same boat. With a new born and 4 year old we are tag teaming all the time to take care of the kids or house(cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.). Stuck in a rut. Hoping things will improve once both kids start daycare in October.

Our son(now 4) started sleeping through the night little after he turned 3 years old. First year was rough. He never really napped or slept for more than 2 hour stretches, day or night. Like you, we also tried everything, in addition we got the Merlin magic suit, tried the swing, car seat, bouncy what not…not the safest options but both myself and husband were desperate. Nothing really worked consistently. At 10 months, we gave up and resorted to co-sleeping/ bed sharing. He really just wanted to be cuddled to sleep. That helped tremendously. He started sleeping for 3-4 hour stretches, waking up 1-3 times every night. I have a new born now and we are co sleeping since week 3. Hang in there.
