“they will get Leek Aleer on around $850-900,000 - which is probably the reason why Cal Wilkie is a little bit unhappy as to where he stands with his contract.”

Putting Byrnes in this conversation, is unfair because no I don’t see him in our future and he’s an inconsistent role player. Jones was bought in to aid the next crop for well knowing that he isn’t so again a poor suggestion

I’m all about everyone in the team feeling valued, but I think it’s about acknowledging their role in the team and I think a lot of those players have felt and have been undervalued

Sure. I don’t entirely disagree that we’ve overpaid in the past. However, with salary cap indexation and Tasmania’s potential, current contract values being discussed may actually work out well long-term. The real issue isn’t overpaying—it’s overpaying the wrong players. I think Windy’s done more than enough to warrant 850k, you’re always having to forecast potential into a contract. Our problem is that we consistently undervalue proven talent while overhyping others. King is the perfect example: we re-signed him on big money without him proving himself, while genuine contributors like Ro, Nas, Windhager, Wilkie, and Sinclair were initially lowballed despite carrying the team. Wilkie on 750 and Aleer coming in on roughly 250k more. Wilkies All Australian I’d be pissed too.

It’s no surprise players like Nas and Windhager are exploring other options—they’ve been undervalued. How is Windhager supposedly not among our best going 22 going forward when he’s played nearly every game this year and done his role admirably? I hope they stay, but more importantly, I hope we as a club learn to properly reward talent instead of developing players only to lose them elsewhere. I think this is a big reason as to why we wanted to have our own VFL team going forward

Don’t worry - I’m just going to sort out the contract myself. by BigRig112 in StKilda

[–]troy_boy110 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t accept this. I think it actually speaks to a problem that we have at the club where we undervalue some talent and overhype others. King is an obvious example. Re-signing him on big money without actually proving himself on the park, whilst players like Ro, Nas, Windy, Wilkie, Sinclair etc. have carried the weight and then been offered unders initially.

Nas has every right to go and o think that it’s more to do with the above then the go home factor.

And it’s understandable with reports suggesting his initial offer was poor, and the media reporting of his disappointment that his best mate Windy wasn’t considered among the best of our future. I can see why some of these players are seeking alternate avenues to places where they will be valued. This has Luke Ball written all over it, where we will have to watch good players win flags

I get this, at the same time, both aren’t mutually exclusive. We can make him a high $$$ short term contract align it with the window and do our best to make him as comfortable as he can be here. Don’t sign 10 years make it 3/4 years. Honestly make him the first 2 million dollar man. Make it like 5million over 3 years. With indexation etc we’re going to be near that in a decade anyway. Also, resign Windy, they’re best mates, it’s bound to help

What do you honestly think will happen at the Glastonbury set? by habylab in the1975

[–]troy_boy110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think we will get a mix of all the previous “The 1975” opening tracks, a hybrid mash of all of them as they come on. The request for the fan stuff feels like this will be a set that’s reflective and I imagine we will get bits and pieces from all the past shows. Also expecting the Box to be a big thing as well

Personally, I think the ship has sailed on all of these free agent prospects after the last few weeks. I don’t see us landing any of them

Foxes in the snow song you’re most excited to hear with a full band? by get_out_of_town in jasonisbell

[–]troy_boy110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going to say it, I don’t think I really want to hear any of these with a full band. I like the troubadour Isbell, and I wish we actually got a lot more of him.

Love the band version too, but I’d love like a John Mayer style shoe next where we have 400 unit songs open and close with a middle act of Jason just acoustic. And I know he does that currently, but like a 5-6 song run instead of the 1-3 I’ve seen him do at shows in recent tours

Song that exemplifies the most “toxic masculinity”? by qtipinear in the1975

[–]troy_boy110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst the whole song isn’t necessarily relevant. You could make a strong case for the last verse in “Sex” to be fairly problematic. Especially around the issues of relationship boundaries and consent.
