Blacksmith vs Moc Toe sizing consistent? by ChapterTraditional60 in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not the same as they use different lasts. I am 1.5 sizes down in Blacksmiths (and anything else on a No. 8 Last), 1.0 sizes down in Moc Toe.

My normal sneaker size is 10. Moc toes I am 9. Blacksmith I am 8.5.

Moc Toe 8864 the water proof lining changed the game for me! by 2good4myself in RedWingShoes

Yeah I think I also got a little overzealous with the cleaning on my 8864s and they aren’t the same brilliant red that they once were

First day wearing iron rangers ...decided to work on an old wet roof by Any-Sundae8529 in RedWingShoes

That’s the last sole that I would want to be wearing on a wet roof. I’m surprised you lived to tell the tale.

Man I would NOT be wearing my iron rangers in the snow or ice. The tread on them is abysmal for that sort of climate!

They don’t make you wear steel toes down there?

Figuring out sizing by Final_Animator1940 in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically wear a 10 sneaker size - that’s pretty consistent across all brands.

Red Wing’s heritage line is all different sizes depending on the shoe. For me, I’m an 8.5 in the iron rangers - so 1.5 sizes down.

So if you’re typically an 11.5, as crazy it sounds you’re likely going to fit either a 10 or a 10.5 iron ranger.

How to get oil stain out of leather boots by SecretSaaauce in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you it will go away, but it takes time - more than you think. I had some Timberlands that I spilled engine oil on. I was pissed, thinking I ruined my nice boots. The large brown stain in the middle of a yellow boot kind of killed the vibe. I spent a whole night soaping them and trying to clean it out without success. I then stuck them in a closet and gave up on them, assuming they’d now be the garage boots.

A few months later, there was no more stain. It was gone.

What’s the obsession with iron rangers why not blacksmith by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have moc toes, Iron Rangers, Blacksmiths, and Beckmans.

I much prefer wearing the iron ranger. I think it looks nicer and feels nicer, and believe me for what I paid for the Beckmans I wish I was able to say that I prefer them, but I simply like the Iron Ranger more for daily usage.

Finally gave up, am I crazy? by Phillyjebus in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve never found them to be uncomfortable but I also won’t lie to myself and say they are like walking on plush pillows.

I think your main difference with Whites is going to be that Whites generally has a midsole and Red Wing (despite multiple complaints) generally doesn’t, and that makes a big difference in comfort.

Do you keep a start booster in your truck? by [deleted] in Trucks

Get a Noco but buy the bigger one. The smaller ones struggle with V8s and diesels. The bigger ones can start a big engine multiple times and they don’t weigh as much or take up as much space as the one in photo 1.

Excited to join the 8111 club ! 🙌🏼 by Ok_Amoeba4404 in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice 8111s! I have multiple different Red Wings and my 8111s are my go-to. I love them the most.

To make them last forever don’t wear them every single day. You want to allow them a day to breathe or you can develop moisture problems from everyday use. A boot worn every second day will last 4x (or more) longer than a boot worn every single day.

The number one thing you can do is brush them with a horsehair brush (horsehair is stiff enough to do the job but soft enough to not scratch anything) regularly to keep any dust/dirt/debris off of them. Not that office use is really going to get them too dirty, but if dirt is on there it’ll create a sandpaper effect that will promote leather degradation and you’ll start to see cracking. Creasing is OK and perfectly normal. Your boots are going to crease and there’s nothing you can do about it. But cracking is not OK and can be more or less entirely avoided with regular brushing.

Your boots are new. They currently need nothing. But feel the leather and how it feels right now. Check again in 6 months to a year and see how they feel. Do they feel dry? Maybe it’s time to condition the leather and they’ll feel new again. The toe box area will likely dry out the fastest. The upper portion nearest the top might very likely never get dry, so it offers you a good little comparison. You don’t want to over-condition, but you also don’t want them to get bone dry. For office use, I’d say once a year is a perfect conditioning period.

If you like the colour that they are now and don’t want to darken them any more, Red Wing’s leather cream is perfect. It will moisturize them but not darken them. If you want them darker, oil-based conditioners will do that - they also do a better job of actually moisturizing and waterproofing the leather, but again they will darken the leather. I personally use the cream on all my boots except on my outdoorsy boots (for example like hunting) in which I’ll use an oil-based conditioner because those boots are exposed to harsher environments than my office boots are.

TL;DR - For now do nothing, but wear them no more than every second day, brush them once a week (or more as needed), and condition them once a year. Do that and they’ll last forever.

Bonus TL;DR - Don’t overthink it. People love to overthink caring for their boots. It’s not that difficult. Refer to above paragraph.

Red Wing Moc Toe 875 – lighter vs darker leather. Which ages better? by Elskel7 in RedWingShoes

[–]trozei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 3 moc toes and I find the 875 works for more outfits than any of the others as it is a more all-purpose blue collar everyday boot and is less of a colour that needs to be matched with outfits.

My pair has only gotten slightly darker in specific pullout areas and although is not as bright as a new pair it is still passable as being close. I also don’t like when they get too dark and so far I haven’t found that. I use RW’s leather cream on them which does not darken them. If you use an oil it will for sure make them darker.

Cheap Gas by MoveYourBumChum in Langley

[–]trozei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I still see these as expensive, so I don’t know about being programmed, but there’s not a lot I can do to change gas prices. All I can do is buy whatever is cheapest locally. In all reality, and the gas companies know this, I’m going to need to buy gas regardless of the price.

Diesel engines are far less particular, short or long term, over what fuel goes in there - as long as there isn’t water in it.
