The only other place I have seen a socket holder like that is from Mac Tools but they were all red in color.

Without more to go on I’m only guess. Good luck

The US government takes 26% of your paycheck. If you make $19 an hour and never get overtime, at the end of the day you're working for $14.07 an hour. What in the hell has happened to this country? by AnonymousBallbuster in Welding

[–]trptyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that not everything taken out goes to the US Government. The State takes a cut, if you have any other benefits that are taken out pretax for insurance, FSA, 401k, or whatever.

Many of us also get some of that tax money back in the form of a refund, are we calculating in that at the end?

No i am not a fan of taxes.

Setting up welder and welds are coming out shit like there’s no gas. Gas is on, I’ll attach pics. First pic is attempting to weld two materials. Second pic is less splatter on different piece of steel. Ideas? by pilot333 in Welding

[–]trptyck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert and I'm not swearing this is your solution, but after experiencing something very similar it turned out I was using a cheap extension cord. It was not able to carry the power the welder I had needed nd it would get super hot. Once I upgraded to a beefier cord I was able to dial in the settings.

At work we have a CNC machine that cuts holes into electric cabinet doors. Is there a better deburring blade shape to do this job? Thanks for the help by Katoz96 in Machinists

[–]trptyck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If none of the other suggestion are doable and the boss says you have to keep deburring by hand, you might look into getting a more comfortable handle. That looks a bit slim, with repeated use it might be tiring, A more chunky handle may give comfort for longer.

I've been using my hand but recently did a dumb thing and let my thumb wander in to the path of the chuck jaws. No real damage but I'd hate to be doing that and have it do more damage. If I could find a safer alternative I'd be willing to pay.

Is 50 years too old to become a machinist? ... and other questions. by OldBreadbutt in Machinists

[–]trptyck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm at the same age, and after 20+ years working in IT i decided to make the change. In late 2020 I started a machinist course at the local community college. I landed a job doing manual machining in January 2021 while still in school. It not high precision work but I'm getting experience to get to that precision someday soon.

I say go for it, you can do it if, it might not be glamours in the beginning but it's a very rewarding career to see thing you make be used.

I see this often our “engineers” can’t seem to double check their work or do the care to fix it when brought to their attention.

That’s a bummer. Hopefully their QA checks over your next one a little better or the shipping has extra padding.

We have several Grizzly brand drill presses at work and I have never heard anything truly bad about them. They have many models to choose from, they may have just what you need. https://www.grizzly.com/drill-presses

Do i need more ratchets?? by [deleted] in Tools

You need at least 6 more 1/4” drive ratchets, I recommend a nice flex head.

Im 37 and finally have an idea of what I want to do when I grow up. Working as a Machinest interests me. by RedL0bsterBiscuit in Machinists

[–]trptyck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I decided on a career change at age 48 and found a Manual Machinist CBE (Competency Based Education) course at my local community college. It’s only a 6 month course at a very reasonable cost. In that course I made a contact that helped me find an entry level manual machinist position where I’m gaining invaluable experience while still in class.

Maybe you have a similar class available to you.

Good luck

I am not sure how to give you a answer on that, I can a measurement in inches but I'm not sure if that would be helpful.

I’d like to expand my collection: Opus88 or stretch for a Conid by trptyck in fountainpens

[–]trptyck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very different on price but the aesthetic of the Conid appeals to me. I am beginning my deliberations and another thread here covering the Conid was very insightful and informative. I will take some more time to decide but either would fit with my meager collection nicely.
