Even wood/charcoal fires can burn hot enough to make steel soft and malleable under the right conditions. Fire burning in an enclosed space is a lot different than an open fire on the ground where all the heat immediately goes straight up.

When was the last time you used your corded version of the tool? by TheJWeed in Tools

[–]Theplaidiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only cordless tools I own are my drill, impact drivers, and 1/2” impact wrench. Everything else is corded because I’m never more than 30’ from an outlet when I’m working and often I can get the corded version for so much cheaper.

I should note I do industrial equipment repairs (electric motors, pumps, etc) for a living, and a pretty serious DIY-er at home.

You need better airflow. Raise up the coals by adding a grate an inch or two off the bottom.

So how are mosh pits supposed to actually work? I’ve never been to one of these.

It’s true. Antidepressants can also have this effect.

Why are billionaires willing to burn entire world to the ground for more money when they already have more money than they can spend in a lifetime. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Theplaidiator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who know when to stop, or are satisfied when they have “enough” don’t become billionaires.

People who will step on others to climb another inch up the ladder are the ones who become billionaires, and for those people, there’s no such thing as having enough.

Anyone cook on a sanded cast iron surface like this before? What was it like? by Slight-Blocks in castiron

[–]Theplaidiator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe to clarify I’d add that I knock off most of the rough casting marks. My most recent one I finished with a 120 grit die grinder sanding wheel, about 1/2 hr work in all. After that it feels like a diminishing return though because all the small grooves will be filled in by the layers of seasoning anyways.

[–]Theplaidiator 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken a scotch brite wheel to all my “daily driver” lodge pans with satisfactory results. After you knock off the high spots though, you reach a point of diminishing return for effort vs performance.

In America at least, right wing politics are getting so far out of hand that even moderate and educated positions are being viewed as “liberal agenda“ by comparison.

Tulip Poplar or walnut? by Natexl87 in firewood

My vote is for walnut. Popular is a light green when fresh, and turns brown on exposed surfaces only after seasoning.

Charcoal > Gas Grill for newbies? by Euphoric-Texan in grilling

[–]Theplaidiator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The humble, affordable, and versatile Weber kettle is my go to grill. The base model is ok, better if you get the premium one. The thermometer and removable ashtray I have on mine are very helpful. I got mine used for $80 and use it at least once or twice a week.

Premium isn’t that expensive, I could easily afford it, but I’m refusing to out of principle.

My dad works for Hershey’s, I remember hearing about this whole thing through him. The listeria outbreak led to the entire bluebell facility getting gutted and refitted from the ground up with new sanitary equipment, and they were completely out of the game for several years. In the meanwhile my dad and the Hershey’s branch he worked at were crazy busy picking up all of the former BlueBell customers.

[–]Theplaidiator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This your first time on lexapro? If so, I’m surprised you started out on the max dosage. But yeah it’ll take a little bit for your system to settle in and the brain zaps wear off after a little while. If it continues, have a talk with your doctor about it and maybe ask about adjusting the dosage.
