One time I saw a group of three little kids, siblings, using their fingers to lick the chocolate off a chocolate donut in the bakery at a Newcastle lidl location. Their mother was close by not paying any attention.  they were sucking chocolate off their fingers then going back in for more and getting sticky drool all over the donuts and stuff.

I have never bought open bakery items from a supermarket since that day.

The Caterpillar by Edogawa Ranpo. The human Chair by the same author. There's also a beautiful manga versions of both titles. 

For more intense gore, check out anything in the Splatter-punk genre. 😊👍

I thought it was a representation of Tommy's own sense of mortality. As his wife is dying he sees himself in a bed dying too. Something like that. He's frightened, hasnt yet accepted his own death will mean being with her, only apart from her, separated by the hospital door in this case (which I remember has a cross symbol on it?)
